High-pressure environments, life-or-death implications, constant change, and long days of exhausting work … It is not surprising that conflicts arise in health care settings. In the fast-paced environment in which nurses work, small differences in decision making, processes, work ethic, and personal characteristics can quickly escalate
As a nurse manager, you need to develop and model skills that effectively address conflict situations. Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, offers sound advice that can be applied to conflict management and resolution. In Habit 4, Think Win-Win, Covey (2004) explains, “[m]any people think in terms of either/or: either you’re nice or you’re tough. Win-win requires that you be both. It is a balancing act between courage and consideration.” Ultimately, how you manage conflict in your setting will determine whether you foster an environment that breeds contempt or one that fosters growth.
Conflict abounds in any workplace; it is a normal part of organizational life. Instead of avoiding or ignoring conflict, the role of the nurse manager is to coach employees through conflict situations and to exercise judgment on how and when to intervene. When managed effectively and focused on substantive issues, conflict can actually lead to better outcomes. However, when interpersonal conflicts go unaddressed, employee morale and engagement–two factors that can seriously impact quality of patient care—will dwindle.
When nurse managers observe employees engaging in toxic or inappropriate workplace behaviors, they must prepare to give difficult feedback. Delivering difficult feedback can be challenging for nurse managers, as they must address employees in a way that is authoritative, supportive, and resolute. One strategy nurse managers can use to deliver difficult feedback is to employ the scripting framework. In this week’s Discussion, you gain experience with using the scripting framework to resolve a conflict situation that you have observed in your past or present workplace.

Consider the types of conflict, including bullying, horizontal violence, toxic and disruptive employees, misuse of social media, unbalanced power, harassment, and favoritism, that exist in your current organization or past place of employment.
Select one type of conflict you have observed. How has conflict impacted your work environment? How have nurse mangers attempted to address conflict situations?
Examine the six-step scripting framework for delivering difficult feedback in Chapter 7 of the course text, From Management to Leadership: Strategies for Transforming Health Care. Then, use this framework to script a conversation between you and the employee(s) involved in the conflict situation you selected.

Please identify each of the numeric types in VB and their numeric bounds (e.g., from 2 to 63). Order those types from smallest to largest by their upper bound. Once you have done that, find an example of something in the world that fits between the upper bound of its predecessor and its own upper bound.

Since then, you have observed that many nurses seem uneasy when they work with one of your top physicians. You wonder why so many nurses are hesitant to work with such an experienced physician, particularly since most of your families rave about her dedication and caring nature toward their children. One day, while taking careful observation of your staff, you watch a nurse take out a patient chart and begin to text. The nurse becomes visibly upset as she sees you approach. When you question her about her behavior, she confides that the physician asks all nurses to text patient test results to her. The nurse admits that she feels uncomfortable sending private information via text message and only did so after multiple requests and increasing pressure from the physician. Scenario Two: It has been a little over a year since you accepted your nurse management position at a local pediatrics office. Since then, you have observed that many nurses seem uneasy when they work with one of your top physicians. You wonder why so many nurses are hesitant to work with such an experienced physician, particularly since most of your families rave about her dedication and caring nature toward their children. One day, while taking careful observation of your staff, you watch a nurse take out a patient chart and begin to text. The nurse becomes visibly upset as she sees you approach. When you question her about her behavior, she confides that the physician asks all nurses to text patient test results to her. The nurse admits that she feels uncomfortable sending private information via text message and only did so after multiple requests and increasing pressure from the physician. The Functional Tradition describes what “messages do and how they move through organizations” (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, p. 28). A function can be seen as a relationship between two things and/or a purpose or activity for which something (a material thing) exists or is used. In this sense, communication is seen as a series of organizational processes, which serve a purpose. For the Functional Tradition, communication exists or is used to organize, for relationships, and for change functions.
The Functional Tradition can essentially be seen as a systems perspective. Shockley-Zalabak (2015) describes information processing as the “primary function” of organizational systems (p. 28). It is useful, then, to understand the various components of a system, more specifically, as they relate to the function of organizing (organizational communication system).
The Meaning-Centered Approach views communication as the process through which shared realities are constituted. Shockley-Zalabak (2015) describes the Meaning-Centered Approach as taking the perspective that organizational communication is the “process for generating shared realities that become organizing, decision making, sensemaking, and culture” (p. 38).

Creating a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) in its most simplistic form is using the evidence, whether from clinical experiences or patient preferences, to make decisions that affect patient care positively (Polit & Beck, 2017). Evidence-based practice is essential for determining changes in practice that are needed to protect and provide safe care for patients. Nurses are the front-line of the healthcare system and are able to recognize and change policies and procedures. Therefore, nurses are responsible for sharing with their peers and co-workers the information obtained from their evidence-based research.
In order to make evidence-based changes, a dissemination plan needs to be in place. In our facility, our evidence-based practice nurse committee is responsible for teaching the staff on changes in practice. Once they have decided on the changes they present the information to the Emergency Department leadership. From there the changes are reported to the nursing staff through department meetings, bulletin boards, and online learning modules. This is based on the ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation which seeks to take research findings and use them to impact patient outcomes by using evidence-based care (Polit & Beck, 2017).
“Often in the dissemination phase, there are considerable barriers that exist. These barriers consist of prejudice toward findings, lack of approval from leadership, nurses attitudes, and the resources needed to make changes. Moore & Tierney (2019) found,
“an overarching theme of disconnection between research and evidence and the participants’ perceptions of contemporary nursing practice was underpinned by three themes:
1) We should be using it… but we’re not.
2) Employees suggested that research involvement was something left after graduation and no longer part of their day-to-day roles.
3) Research is other people’s business (p. 90).
In another report, it was suggested that evidence-based practice is challenging for nurses because of the pressures of a patient satisfaction culture and time constraints when caring for patients (Henderson & Fletcher, 2015). These barriers can only be overcome if nursing leadership has the courage to address them and help nurses see the positive benefits of evidence-based practice.
A culture of change is vital to making a significant improvement in the lives of patients. At this time nursing researchers are limited by a non-existent research culture leaving them nurses with the responsibility to develop that culture (Berthelsen & Holge-Hazelton, 2018). Creating an awareness of the research that is taking place by their peers removes the barriers of feeling not competent to participate. As nursing leadership, our role is to build a culture that creates curiosity and critical reflection ab.

Introduction
Annually, unplanned readmissions cost 15-20 billion dollars, and preventing such readmission will potentially improve the quality of life for patients and decrease the financial pain of health care systems, (Alper,2017). The existing precedence of many healthcare facilities is to reduce readmissions using post-discharge follow-up practices. The definitive objective of health care providers is to deliver high-quality health care services to patients using transitional care models. The methodologies encourage the use of appropriate outpatient follow-up appointments implemented through Medicare incentives to promote the reduction in hospital readmissions (Adib-Hajbaghery, Maghaminejad & Abbasi, 2013). Many of the researchers analyzing the outcome of follow-up on outpatients in reducing hospital readmissions majors on particular illnesses in a state; hence it is shallow. The review indicates that outpatient follow-ups decrease sickle cell anemia, pediatric asthma, and heart failure patient readmission (Hasan et al., 2010; Alper, 2017). However, there is an indication of mixed results obtained from examinations on hospitalized individuals. One study carried out by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission demonstrated that there is no relationship between the timing of outpatient follow-up, and 30-day readmission rate in discharged patients from medical facilities (Ferrandino et al., 2017).

Overall there was an extensive amount of qualitative research conducted is considerably larger than most qualitative studies.

This article specifically applies to my topic of how to generate innovative environments because it takes a 21st-century approach to innovation, which is ironic, and assess how to use social media to generate innovative ideas. Though overall the discovery is that social media is a difficult platform to meet strangers, there is an avenue such as like type communities on social media that would work better.

The Functional Tradition describes what “messages do and how they move through organizations” (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, p. 28). A function can be seen as a relationship between two things and/or a purpose or activity for which something (a material thing) exists or is used. In this sense, communication is seen as a series of organizational processes, which serve a purpose. For the Functional Tradition, communication exists or is used to organize, for relationships, and for change functions.
The Functional Tradition can essentially be seen as a systems perspective. Shockley-Zalabak (2015) describes information processing as the “primary function” of organizational systems (p. 28). It is useful, then, to understand the various components of a system, more specifically, as they relate to the function of organizing (organizational communication system).
The Meaning-Centered Approach views communication as the process through which shared realities are constituted. Shockley-Zalabak (2015) describes the Meaning-Centered Approach as taking the perspective that organizational communication is the “process for generating shared realities that become organizing, decision making, sensemaking, and culture” (p. 38).

Creating a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) in its most simplistic form is using the evidence, whether from clinical experiences or patient preferences, to make decisions that affect patient care positively (Polit & Beck, 2017). Evidence-based practice is essential for determining changes in practice that are needed to protect and provide safe care for patients. Nurses are the front-line of the healthcare system and are able to recognize and change policies and procedures. Therefore, nurses are responsible for sharing with their peers and co-workers the information obtained from their evidence-based research.
In order to make evidence-based changes, a dissemination plan needs to be in place. In our facility, our evidence-based practice nurse committee is responsible for teaching the staff on changes in practice. Once they have decided on the changes they present the information to the Emergency Department leadership. From there the changes are reported to the nursing staff through department meetings, bulletin boards, and online learning modules. This is based on the ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation which seeks to take research findings and use them to impact patient outcomes by using evidence-based care (Polit & Beck, 2017).
“Often in the dissemination phase, there are considerable barriers that exist. These barriers consist of prejudice toward findings, lack of approval from leadership, nurses attitudes, and the resources needed to make changes. Moore & Tierney (2019) found,
“an overarching theme of disconnection between research and evidence and the participants’ perceptions of contemporary nursing practice was underpinned by three themes:
1) We should be using it… but we’re not.
2) Employees suggested that research involvement was something left after graduation and no longer part of their day-to-day roles.
3) Research is other people’s business (p. 90).
In another report, it was suggested that evidence-based practice is challenging for nurses because of the pressures of a patient satisfaction culture and time constraints when caring for patients (Henderson & Fletcher, 2015). These barriers can only be overcome if nursing leadership has the courage to address them and help nurses see the positive benefits of evidence-based practice.
A culture of change is vital to making a significant improvement in the lives of patients. At this time nursing researchers are limited by a non-existent research culture leaving them nurses with the responsibility to develop that culture (Berthelsen & Holge-Hazelton, 2018). Creating an awareness of the research that is taking place by their peers removes the barriers of feeling not competent to participate. As nursing leadership, our role is to build a culture that creates curiosity and critical reflection ab.

CHAPTER I
Introduction
Annually, unplanned readmissions cost 15-20 billion dollars, and preventing such readmission will potentially improve the quality of life for patients and decrease the financial pain of health care systems, (Alper,2017). The existing precedence of many healthcare facilities is to reduce readmissions using post-discharge follow-up practices. The definitive objective of health care providers is to deliver high-quality health care services to patients using transitional care models. The methodologies encourage the use of appropriate outpatient follow-up appointments implemented through Medicare incentives to promote the reduction in hospital readmissions (Adib-Hajbaghery, Maghaminejad & Abbasi, 2013). Many of the researchers analyzing the outcome of follow-up on outpatients in reducing hospital readmissions majors on particular illnesses in a state; hence it is shallow. The review indicates that outpatient follow-ups decrease sickle cell anemia, pediatric asthma, and heart failure patient readmission (Hasan et al., 2010; Alper, 2017). However, there is an indication of mixed results obtained from examinations on hospitalized individuals. One study carried out by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission demonstrated that there is no relationship between the timing of outpatient follow-up, and 30-day readmission rate in discharged patients from medical facilities (Ferrandino et al., 2017).
Statement of the Problem
According to Ferrandino et al. (2017), the readmission of roughly a half of the Medicaid receivers countrywide is within 30 days of discharge, and they fail to get a follow-up on outpatient before readmission. Introduction
This audit report was prepared to satisfy the City of Floma Charter’s requirement to have an external, independent, and qualified auditor annually examine its operations. The stated goal of the audit is to provide the citizens of the city with assurance that the city’s resources are being managed in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
The information presented in this audit report was compiled from data found in public records, transaction and management databases used by municipal software applications, and personal interviews of city employees. The data was reviewed for consistency and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for state and local governments. Analysis of the data was then conducted to determine where opportunities for improved efficiencies exist.
The result of the audit can be found below. It includes specific findings by city department, supporting tables, and general recommendations.City Departments
Public Safety (Police and Fire)
The analysis of the personnel expenditures of both public safety agencies found that overall costs can be reduced by hiring additional police officers and firefighters. Calculations to support this conclusion can be found in Table 1 below. The current spending on overtime warrants the net addition of two police officers and one firefighter in fiscal year 2019.
The population growth of the city is noted, and as such, additional hires should be anticipated in each of the following two years. The hires required to maintain proper personnel levels in the police force and fire department will be financially covered by the expected increase in city tax revenue commensurate with the population growth.
Utilities
The acquisition of smart electricity meters has continued at a steady pace throughout 2018. We observed delays in the installation and proper configuration of the smart meters, which causes unnecessary inconvenience for citizens. The city personnel tasked with the implementation of the smart meters has not received sufficient training to complete the project within the allotted time frame.
The utility department should organize additional training sessions for the two supervisors so that they may in turn train their employees. This training is to focus on efficient installation of the meters and connection of the meters to the central utility computer system. Until such training is completed, it is not advisable to continue installation of the new meters to avoid disruptions and costly rework.
Waste Management
The Waste Management Department has not made any plans to address the city’s landfill capacity. The landfill is expected to reach its designed capacity in Q2, 2020. Several.

Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. - 1. Discussion Week 7: Addressing Barriers to Effective Communication From moment to moment, a nurse leader’s day involves communication—with patients, families, colleagues, supervisors, and so on. Think of a particular day you spent working in a health care environment, and consider three or four distinct points in time. For each point of time, consider the following: With whom did you interact? Which forms of communication did you use? What issues were communicated about—did they seem to be light- hearted or sensitive? Straightforward or complicated? How would you describe the pace of the interactions and your work? As you consider these questions, it becomes clear that communication can be quite complex, with many layers of meaning that shape the experience for everyone involved. How could this awareness help you to understand instances of ineffective communication when they arise? To prepare: Review the information in Chapter 19 of the course text, as well as the assigned articles. Reflect on an incident involving ineffective communication within your organization or another health care setting. Consider this incident through the lens of the communication process outlined in Figure 19.1 of the course text (p. 439). What barriers contributed to this incident? What other challenges may have influenced this situation? Using the information presented in the other Learning Resources, consider what could have been done to prevent or address the ineffective communication. Why do you think the use of these strategies would have resulted in better outcome(s)? Post a summary of an incident involving ineffective communication. Describe communication barriers and other challenges that contributed to the incident. Propose one or more strategies that
