On Father's Day, we celebrate the greatest Father of all, the One who is ever faithful to us. Beginning with the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-24), going through John's writings on how Jesus and the Father are one (John 14:10) and how they dwell in each other, and then coming back to the faithfulness of our Father in heaven illustrated by the parable, the message showed the great love of the Father for all of us and how we encounter him through Jesus.

Reading this Bible verse written thousands of years ago, we might ask ourselves the question, “Can we know God in this way today?”
The same God who made the heavens and the earth, who is eternal, all-powerful, and completely holy, has made a way for us to indeed have an intimate relationship with Him.
He is not a God who is aloof or distant. He invites us today to know Him face to face!

Not only do we identify with Christ, but Christ identifies with us. We are the body of Christ as He has chosen to make Himself known through the church.
Luke speaks about prayer more than any of the other Evangelists…and in this weekend’s gospel we hear the disciples, asking Jesus to teach them how to pray and he responds with a simple version of the Lord’s Prayer. With prayer being so foundation to who we are, how do you pray? But the bigger question may have to do with how we view prayer. In other words, do we come to prayer as a transactional or a relational activity? Do we spend our time in prayer looking for something from God…or are we desiring a connection with God?
Leave it to my grandson Oliver to open my eyes to what prayer is really all about. Check it out and see what I mean…

To truly calculate the cost, you must consider both the cost of action and the cost of inaction not only for the near term but in the long term. Jesus calls us to a decision. Choose wisely.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Discipleship 101 (pray daily)
1. Luke 11:1-2a
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.
When He finished, one of His disciples said to
Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught
his disciples.’ He said to them,

2. Luke 11:2b-4
“When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your
name, Your kingdom come. Give us each day our
daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also
forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead
us not into temptation.’

3. Luke 11:5-6
Then He said to them, ‘Suppose one of you has a
friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says,
‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a
friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and
I have nothing to set before him.

4. Luke 11:7-8
Then the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me.
The door is already locked, and my children are
with me in bed. I can’t get up and give you
anything.’ I tell you, though he will not get up
and give him the bread because he is his friend,
yet because of the man’s boldness he will get up
and give him as much as he needs.

5. Luke 11:9-10
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find; knock and the door will
be opened to you. For everyone who asks
receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who
knocks, the door will be opened.

6. Luke 11:11-13
Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish,
will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for
an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then,
though you are evil, know how to give good gifts
to your children, how much more will your
Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those
who ask Him.”

RELATIONSHIPS of depth do not simply happen;
they are relationships you value enough to build

10. The words are not as
important as the ATTITUDE
they convey.
What do you say to One who is omniscient,
omnipotent, and omnipresent? According to
Jesus, “FATHER”.
The disciples first desire is not to get a YES from
God, but for God to answer my prayer in a way
that best HONORS and brings GLORY to His name.
11. Through prayer we can grow
in our relationship to TRUST
Him whether He delivers from
or delivers through.
God answers prayers, but in a way keeping to His
WILL and for the greater GOOD.
…mostly PROVISION comes through PRESENCE.
Disciples don’t use not knowing as an EXCUSE, but
a REASON to learn… “teach us to pray”.
