• The Disaster Management Act of 2005 defines Disaster Management as
an integrated process of planning, organizing, coordinating and
implementing measures which are necessary for-

4.Promptness in dealing with a disaster

4. AGENCIES INVOLVED IN DISASTER
MANAGEMENT IN INDIA
• National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA):-
Controls National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
• National Executive Committee (NEC):- Prepares the
National Plan on Disaster Management
• State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA):- Assisted
by State Executive Committee on Disaster Management
at state level
• District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA):-
Ensures that the guidelines framed by the NDMA and
the SDMA are followed by all the departments of the
State Government at the District level and the local
authorities in the District.
7. MEASURES OF DISASTER MITIGATION
STRUCTURAL MEASURES: These
measures include any physical
construction or application of
engineering technology to
reduce the impact of hazards.
NON-STRUCTURAL MEASURES:
These measures include building
codes, land use planning and
their research, enforcement, and
assessment, information
resources, public awareness
programmes, training and
education.

• Avoid buying property that is prone to hazards.
• Get an insurance.
• Implement structural mitigation on personal property
to reduce damage.
• Prepare equipment and procedures for use when a
disaster occurs.
• Prepare a disaster survival kit.
