MUSIC VIDEO:
DIRECTOR RESEARCH
Spike Jonze has a verity of different types of music videos. These
four screenshots on this page are all completely different styles
and genres from each other.
The video below by Daft Punk is the one that’s stands out the
most to me. As there isnt any lyrics within the song a whole
narrative approach is added to the video which makes the song
completely different in any music video seen.
The Bjork video is very much a fantasy/musical based themed
which goes well with the huge beats in the song but this is very
different from all of Spike Jonzes video.
With Unkle’s Video it again is opposite to his other videos where
its all about skateboarding which is a personal hobby of his.
The Fourth Video by Phantom Planet is very raw and indie which
shows us that this is a serious band unlike Daft Punk where they
have a man with a dogs head.
"High in High School" Chainsaw Kittens
"100%" Sonic Youth
"Hang On" Teenage Fanclub
"Time for Livin'" Beastie Boys
"Buddy Holly" Weezer
"Feel the Pain" Dinosaur Jr.
"I Can't Stop Smiling" Velocity Girl

video
I personally love the Videos Spike Jonze has
made for Fatboy Slim and I find them iconic.
I particularly like the idea around the “Praise
You” video at the fact that Spike Jonze is the
lead dancer in the song which shows his
humours side which is often seen in other
projects.
video
This video was co-directed with Kanye West
and again is different from all of Spike Jonzes
past videos.
The one thing that stands out in this video is
that it isnt a stereotypical rap video in a
sense that Kanye is only briefly in the video
at the end although there is a woman in her
underwear which is usually in this type of
genre.
video
This is my favorite video of all of the videos
Spike Jonze has directed. I love the
playfulness and how its not a typical music
video and the singers are used like lab rats
somewhat during the course of the video.
