• M2M is silo based as it operates stand alone with individual value chains, like asset mgmt., smart
metering
• IoT is about combing data (horizontally) across slios and leading to higher value services. This
shared platform will appeal to SME/B. AT&T Digital, Deutsche Telekom (Qivicon). Niche platform
providers like Arrayent and Zonoff in the USA are already experimenting in this arena.
• Other approach is OTT, which relies on information being available to end users, via the Internet,
from connected devices and sensors. This can be conceptualised as a database for machine and
sensor data (e.g. environmental sensors in public spaces) that is accessible to IoT applications.
