Lesson Plan Title: Life Cycle of Stars
Concept / Topic To Teach: Astronomy
Standards Addressed: Standards 8.4 b: Students know that the Sun is one of many stars in the Milky
Away galaxy and that stars may differ in size, temperature, and color.
General Goal(s): Students should know that all stars are not the same size, color, or temperature and that
star’s go through birth and death forming a cycle.
Specific Objectives: Create a digital story telling how stars live and die.
Required Materials: computer, microphone, images of space objects. Textbook Chapter 12 and other non-
textbook resources.
Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):
Brain Pops on our solar system and perhaps life cycles in general.
Chapter 12 in Glencoe Physical Science Textbook with focus on the life and death of a star.
Class discussion on how to do research – what it means to plagiarize both text and photos.
Step-By-Step Procedures:
1. Present project via power point and sample project and sample story board
2. Establish 2 to 3 days for research. Research will be done in classroom with library resources.
3. Students prepare story board. Must have teacher approval
4. Once Approved students will begin to use Photo Story 3 to create their story.
5. Area of room will be reserved for recording.
6. Once all are complete students will present to class.
7. Students will take notes on presentations in anticipation of comments and quizzes.
Plan For Independent Practice: Students will work on research for their story board.
Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set): present and critique others: positives and negatives
2 things you would do differently if it was yours.
Assessment Based On Objectives: assignment will be assessed via rubric: accuracy of information;
interest of presentation; use of all available tools; music and audio
2. Adaptations (For Students With Learning Disabilities): Work in partnership with other students.
Assessment will be modified to accommodate their disabilities.
