The Dust Bowl of the 1930s resulted from years of drought that dried out soil in the Central Plains states, making it susceptible to wind erosion. Farmers had depleted the soil by overplanting wheat, and the drought caused massive dust storms that engulfed the region. 3) Rising carbon dioxide levels correlate with increasing global temperatures over the past 2000 years. Climate change is projected to severely impact living conditions through effects like rising sea levels, decreased water availability, and extreme weather.

Biology Club president Shaun Singh hopes the drive will generate donations of canned food to help Vancouver's homeless and less fortunate. Working with the BC Food Bank was an easy partnership for the club. Singh hopes to collect enough canned food donations to provide hundreds of meals for those in need. The drive has generated interest among Langara students after being promoted through posters and newsletters.

Overview
When you think of “data visualization” what is the very first thing that comes to mind? For many, it’s bar graphs, pie charts, and histograms, or maybe some combination thereof. You’re not wrong – but it’s so much more than that. The era of pie and bar charts has come and gone; these traditional visualizations alone are insufficient. Now is the time of data visualized on a rich canvas. A canvas that not only informs, but immerses you in information in much the same way that your favourite book immerses you in its narrative.
Objective
When attendees leave, that they walk away with an understanding of how development, design and data are strongly intertwined with one other. When aligned with customers needs, these aspects create a meaningful and actionable experience.

Some common applications of data mining include analyzing customer purchasing patterns, detecting fraud, predicting disease outbreaks, and analyzing financial/business data. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.
