The DVLA currently holds over 45 million driver records and 37 million vehicle records, processes over 25 million transactions per year, and collects over £6 billion in vehicle excise duty for the UK government. It aims to simplify services for customers through digital transformation, reducing reliance on contractors and transitioning more services online. This will include abolishing the paper tax disc by October 2014 and launching new digital services in early 2015. The DVLA also seeks to support the local technology sector in Swansea through partnerships with universities and startups.
