The song describes a woman who is obsessed with the singer and is trying to steal his identity. She copies his clothes, haircut, and hobbies and drives around in his car. The singer feels like he is "fading away" and begs others to notice that his girlfriend is a "wannabe" who wants to be just like him. In the end, the obsession has driven the singer to a "loony bin" where his girlfriend, still trying to copy him, asks for his boyfriend's autograph.
