Different Methods of
Preparing Cocktails
Building Method
Building is the most used (and
probably most easy) technique
when creating a cocktail.
Building a cocktail is
simply pouring it right into the
glass or cup in which it will be
served.
Stirring Method
Refers to the mixing of the
ingredients with ice, by
stirring quickly in a mixing
glass with the stirrer and
then straining into the
appropriate glass.
Shaking Method
It is the mixing of
ingredients thoroughly
with ice by shaking them
in a cocktail shaker and
straining them into the
appropriate glass.
Blending Method
The blending method of
mixing a cocktail is used
for combining fruits,
solid food, ice, etc. in an
electric blender.
Layering Method
Layering cocktail-making
method is used when
the ingredients used are
of a different color, flavor
and sensitizes.
Cocktail Garnish
-are decorative ornaments that
add character or style to a mixed
drink, most notably to cocktails.
They are used to complement and
enhance the flavors in a drink by
stimulating the special nerve cells
in the nose and mouth.

Hygiene and Safety
- Always be clean, tidy and diplomatic.
- Always rinse/wash bar equipment like
cocktail shakers and strainers after use.
- Always wash and dry your hands
frequently, especially after contact with
citrus fruit/juices. This prevent hand
dermatitis.

Hygiene and Safety
- Look after your hands, especially your
fingernails as these are always in view. Keep
fingernails short and if using nail polish, use
neutral colors.
- Don’t smoke or drink while working behind a
bar, it is considered unsanitary and in many
countries is also illegal.
- Never fill a glass to the rim.
