Challenge”

9. G1- Use sentence strips or cards showing mixed-up
citation parts (author, title, year, etc.) and arrange
them in correct order for APA and MLA
G2- You’ll be given sample citations with missing
elements, fill in the blanks (e.g., missing author,
year, or publisher).
G3 & G4- Using three provided sources (a book, a
journal, a website), write correct citations in both
APA and MLA formats.
G5- Check sample citations made by Group 3 & 4.

CITATION STYLES

14. A CITATION STYLE is a set of rules on
how to cite sources in academic
writing. Whenever you refer to
someone else’s work, a citation is
required to avoid plagiarism.
IN-TEXT CITATION: When you cite
sources within the paragraph or
body of the text.

16. APA (American
Psychological Association)
• APA style in-text citation uses the
author’s last name and date method.
• It is the most adopted citation style.
• APA is commonly used in the Social
Sciences

17. EXAMPLE OF IN-TEXT
CITATION:
“Culture is the ideas, customs and social behavior
of a particular society. Folk art forms are the
methods through which these ideas and customs
are kept alive. It is also the method through which
the children become a part of that culture by
inculcating those ideas and customs, through
songs and dance (Girish,2018). ”

18. APA format structure: CITING A BOOK
Author, A. (Year of Publication). Title of work. Publisher City,
State: Publisher.
APA format example:
Finney, J. (1970). Time and again. New York, NY: Simon and
Schuster.
Notes: When citing a book in APA, keep in mind:
Capitalize the first letter of the first word of the title and any subtitles, as
well as the first letter of any proper nouns.
The full title of the book, including any subtitles, should be stated and
italicized.

20. MLA (Modern Language
Association)
• MLA style in-text citation uses the
author’s last name and the page
number from which the quotation
or paraphrase is taken.
• MLA is commonly used in the
Humanities.
