Because they are formed deep within the earth, under extreme heat and pressure; virtually all diamonds contain "birthmarks"; small imperfections inside the diamond (called inclusions), or on its surface (called blemishes).
The historical diamond industry underwent major transformations:
1) Discovery of diamond deposits in South Africa in 1870 led to consolidation under De Beers, which came to control 90% of global supply by early 1900s.
2) Marketing campaigns in later 1900s like "A Diamond is Forever" created vast new demand for diamonds as symbols of love and status.
3) Supply diversified across four continents as new mines opened in Russia, Canada, Australia, and Africa beyond South Africa.
4) Changes introduced by De Beers opened the industry to more competition in rough diamond sales and production.

The Sunny Diamonds- Comprehensive Guide To Diamond Jewelry is an all in one directory, guiding prospective customers in choosing the perfect diamond in terms of it quality, value and price
When you are planning on purchasing a diamond it is important that you know how diamonds are classified. There are four topics you need to become familiar with?Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight.
Because diamonds are so valuable, it’s essential to have a universal grading system for comparing their quality. In the 1940s and ’50s, GIA developed the 4Cs and the GIA International Diamond Grading System™ to objectively compare and evaluate diamonds.
The document discusses the Four C's of diamonds - cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. It provides details on grading scales for each C, including what constitutes top grades and recommendations on which grades provide the best value. For cut, ideal or very good cuts reflect most light. For color, D-F are colorless. For clarity, VS1-VS2 have minor inclusions not visible to the naked eye. And for carat weight, quality of cut is as important as weight in determining perceived size. The document advises selecting the highest grade within one's budget for the best appearance.

This document provides an overview of diamonds, including their history, characteristics, and grading. It discusses how diamonds became desirable due to their rarity, durability, beauty, and value. It explains how diamonds are cut, including their anatomy and facets, and how this contributes to their brilliance, fire, and scintillation. The 4Cs of grading diamonds - color, clarity, cut, and carat weight - are defined. Common diamond simulants like cubic zirconium and moissanite are also outlined.
Diamonds have been treasured for centuries due to their rarity, durability, and beauty. Their sparkle comes from facets that reflect light internally and externally. Diamonds are graded on the 4 Cs - color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Higher grades mean fewer inclusions, closer to colorless color, ideal cutting proportions, and larger size. Proper cleaning maintains a diamond's brilliance. Synthetic diamonds and simulants like cubic zirconia are available but have distinguishing characteristics. Understanding these basics empowers consumers.
Diamonds form deep within the earth under high temperatures and pressures. They are brought closer to the surface through volcanic eruptions, where they can eventually be mined. There are two main rock types - kimberlite and lamproite - that sometimes contain diamonds. Diamonds are evaluated based on the four Cs: color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Treatments like irradiation, annealing, and high pressure high temperature processes can enhance a diamond's color. Disclosure of treatments and enhancements is important to maintain consumer trust. Diamonds remain popular gems due to their rarity, beauty, and enduring value.
An Emerald that does not shine, not transparent from the center of the gemstone, or is light in color, is not a fine gemstone. If an Emerald is too dark, then it is considered as a fine quality Emerald.
The 5 C's refer to the key characteristics used to evaluate diamonds: Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat, and Certification. Cut impacts sparkle and brilliance, Color ranges from colorless to light yellow, Carat measures weight in increments of 0.2 grams, Clarity examines interior flaws, and Certification from accredited laboratories verifies quality and allows comparisons. Understanding the 5 C's helps determine what matters most in a diamond and find the best value.
VVS diamonds are gemologically defined as very very slightly included/inclusions. When you see the diamond clarity VVS1 or VVS2 on a diamond grading/certification report, you know the diamonds are ready to buy. VVS diamonds are the most popular clarity grade diamonds after flawless or internally flawless diamonds because they cost 30-40% less than flawless and internally flawless diamonds.
Inclusions in VVS diamonds are not as numerous as in SI or VS clarity diamonds. In gemological terminology, VVS diamonds are the third exceptional clarity diamond after FL (flawless) and IF (internally flawless). VVS diamonds are most commonly used in engagement rings and wedding necklaces. You discovered that the surface of VVS diamonds produces more reflection light than VS or SI clarity diamonds.

Event Report - SAP Sapphire 2024 Orlando - lots of innovation and old challengesHolger Mueller
Holger Mueller of Constellation Research shares his key takeaways from SAP's Sapphire confernece, held in Orlando, June 3rd till 5th 2024, in the Orange Convention Center.
2. Because they are formed deep within the earth,
under extreme heat and pressure; virtually all
diamonds contain "birthmarks"; small imperfections
inside the diamond (called inclusions), or on its
surface (called blemishes). Clarity refers to the
degree to which these imperfections are present.
Diamonds which contain numerous or significant
inclusions or blemishes have less brilliance
because the flaws interfere with the path of light
through the diamond.
3. The position of an inclusion affects how easily it can
be seen. Diamond cutters make every effort to cut a
stone so that inclusions are not visible through the
table of the finished diamond. The preferred position
for inclusions is under the bezel facets or near the
girdle because they are harder to see there.
4. Almost all diamonds are graded for clarity using the
11 point diamond clarity scale created by the GIA,
including diamonds which were not actually graded
by GIA (every Lumera Diamond is GIA certified). In
grading diamond clarity, the GIA considers the
number, size, color, reflectivity, and position of every
flaw visible under 10x magnification.
5. FL
Flawless: No
inclusions or
blemishes are
visible to a skilled
grader using 10x
magnification.
Extremely rare,
less than 1 in
5000 jewelry
quality diamonds
are rated FL.
6. IF
Internally Flawless: No
inclusions, only
blemishes are visible
to a skilled grader
using 10x
magnification.
FL and IF diamonds
appear identical unless
viewed under 10x
magnification by a
skilled grader. Less than
3% of jewelry quality
diamonds are rated IF.
7. VVS1
VVS2
Very, Very Slightly
Included:
Inclusions are
difficult for a
skilled grader to
see under 10x
magnification.
VVS1 inclusions are typically only
visible from the pavilion, while
VVS2 inclusions are visible from
the crown. In each, the inclusions
are invisible to the eye, appearing
identical to the higher grades
unless viewed under 10x
magnification by a skilled grader.
8. VS1
VS2
Very Slightly Included:
Inclusions are clearly
visible under 10x
magnification but can be
characterized as minor.
Inclusions are not visible to
the naked eye. Perhaps 1 in
100 untrained observers can
detect VS2 inclusions with
the naked eye, on close
inspection under ideal
conditions.
9. SI1
SI2
Slightly Included:
Inclusions are
noticeable to a
skilled grader using
10x magnification.
SI1 is the lowest grade
with flaws often invisible to
the naked eye. SI2
inclusions are usually
visible to the naked eye,
although they will require
close inspection.
10. I1
I2
I3
Included: Inclusions are
obvious under 10x
magnification and may
affect transparency and
brilliance.
I1 diamonds have inclusions
that are almost always visible
to the naked eye.
Because I2-I3 diamonds have
prounounced inclusions, and in
the case of I3 may even affect
the diamond's durability, they
are not offered by Lumera.
