4 C’s of Diamonds
Traditionally made diamonds are being created by natural Earth's activities. The heat and pre
Earth's surface transforms carbon form into a crystalline structure.
Through volcanic activity, this particular crystalline structure which is known to be the diamo
is being sent to the surface area of the Earth embedded in the rocks.
The laboratory created diamonds are molded in the laboratory. It is grown under cautiously c
laboratory Conditions. It can be formed either through High Pressure High Temperature (HP
Chemical Vapor Disposition (CVD) processes.
 Lab Grown Diamonds are chemically, physically and optically exactly the same
as mined diamonds.
 The only difference between Lab Grown Diamonds and mined diamonds is the
point of origin.
 Mined diamonds take millions of years to grow under the earth, whereas Lab
Grown Diamonds are a high technology product which grow in a matter of
weeks above the earth in diamond growing greenhouses. For more information

The Color of diamonds varies from colorless(most rare and precious) to
many shades of yellow (less rare). Most fine diamonds vary in shade from
colorless to yellow, brown, or gray. To determine the color grade, all
submitted diamonds are compared to an internationally accepted master
set of diamonds, the color of which ranges from D, or colorless (the most
sought-after) to Z, (the least desirable).When you’re ring shopping, it’s
important to ask where the diamond you’re looking at falls on the color
grading scale. The color of diamonds, except for fancy color diamonds, are
graded based on the absence of color in the diamond. Colorless diamonds
are very clear and contain no traces of color (e.g. yellow or brown).
COLOR
Diamond color is graded on a scale of D to Z. D, E, and F diamonds are considered
the rarest, as they are virtually colorless whereas diamonds in the G and H color
range are near colorless except for a slight tinge which can be eliminated with the
proper setting (e.g. white gold or platinum). Diamonds in the I to J color range
offer the best value for money, as they are about 10% cheaper than diamonds in the
G to H range but still appear colorless to the naked eye.
How a diamond has been cut, polished, and to what proportions and symmetry, are
of utmost importance as these factors determine the life, brilliance and dispersion
of the diamond. If these cutting factors fall below standard, the appearance of the
diamond will be adversely affected.
(A) When a ray of light touches the surface of a diamond, part of the ray is
reflected back. This is external reflection.
(B) The rest of the ray penetrates the stone and is then reflected toward the center
of the diamond. This is known as refraction.
(C) The ray of light is reflected to the surface, where it is observed as the colors of
the spectrum. This is known as dispersion. Execution of the design, the precision
of the cutting details and the quality of the polish are collectively called the finish.
CUT
Some people mistake a diamond’s cut for a diamond’s shape. Cut is different from
shape. A diamond’s cut refers to how it is proportioned, its symmetry, and as well
as its polish. A diamond’s cut is determined not only by the quality of the rough
stone but by the craftsmanship and preciseness of the diamond cutter. Cut is very
important in a diamond, as it can greatly affect its external appearance. Even the
most flawless of diamonds can look dull if not cut to exacting proportions.
Most diamonds contain inclusions (imperfections within the diamond).
Inclusions
that are concealed or hidden from plain sight are ideal because they don’t
affect
the way a diamond reflects light. Inclusions that are very visible can affect the
way
light bounces on individual facets of a diamond and can therefore greatly
affect a
diamond’s fire, brilliance, and scintillation.
A diamond’s clarity is graded based on the quantity of inclusions and their
location in the diamond. The GIA uses the following parameters to describe a
diamond’s clarity grade:
CLARITY
FL (Flawless)
Do not contain any visible inclusions (internal flaws) and blemishes (flaws
located on the surface) even under 10x magnification. These diamonds are
virtually flawless and are extremely rare and expensive.
IF (Internally Flawless)
IF diamonds have no visible inclusions or blemishes unless viewed under 10x
magnification by a trained expert.
VVS1 VVS2 (Very Very Slightly Included)
VVS1 and VVS2 diamonds contain some inclusions and blemishes but they are
not visible to the untrained eye. Even under 10x magnification, only a skilled
grader is able to spot the inclusions on a diamond of VVS1 or VVS2 Clarity.
VS1 VS2 (Very Slightly Included)
Diamonds of VS1 or VS2 clarity grades contain minor inclusions that are not
visible to the naked eye. The inclusions can only be seen under 10x
magnification.
SI1 SI2 (Slightly Included)
Diamonds with SI1 clarity contain inclusions that are still invisible to the naked eye and
can usually only be observed under 10x magnification. SI2 diamonds, on the other
hand, contain inclusions that can be seen by the naked eye upon close inspection.
I1, I2, I3 (Included)
I1 to I3 Diamonds contain very visible inclusions that can be observed by the naked eye.
I2 and I3 diamonds usually contain inclusions that can affect a diamond’s overall
quality and appearance.
The final aspect of grading a diamond is the carat. Carat is a metric unit of
weight in
the gem stone industry. Carat is equal to 1/5th of a gram or “5 carats in a 1
gram.”
The term “points” is a decimal fraction of a carat. A point is equal to .01
(1/100th) of
a carat. Just as 1 dollar is equal to 100 cents, 1 carat equals 100 points.
Generally speaking, larger stones are rarer than smaller stones of the same
quality.
This is why the 1 carat, 20 stone cluster ring is less expensive than a 1 carat
solitaire of
the same quality. The size at which a gemstone increases significantly in
price varies
with the availability.Carat weight and the physical size of a stone varybetween species
of gemstones. For example, a carat round diamond is 6.5 millimeters in
diameter, but
a 1 carat ruby is 5.5 to 6.0 millimeters in diameter. This is because rubies are
denser
and typically cut heavier than a diamond. So, a 1.5 carat stone may be
Carat
