I used to say “but I’m not technical.” If I can learn it, write down steps, and lead others through a process it’s less work for the next person. Documentation should come from a place of empathy. Helping others was the motivation I needed to cross that chasm to a technical mindset.

Appsec focuses almost solely on developer awareness and secure development training as remediation. This isn't sustainable and arguably does little good. There is a better way, but we have to separate ourselves from the core assumptions we have made that got us here. Lets journey together to find old truths and better approaches.
We will explore ways to make a change for the better across all levels of the development lifecycle, but we will focus on security testing early on in the development process. From this session, you will learn pragmatic approaches and tooling that will affect your development processes and delivery pipelines. You will walk away with code examples and tools that you can put into practice right away for security and rugged testing.

Commercial tools and services can help with all of these, but often come with enterprise pricing. Open source to the rescue!
Fortunately, in each of these areas, open source tools provide capabilities that match or exceed the capabilities of their commercial equivalents. Furthermore, Kubernetes greatly decreases the operational expense of self-hosting these tools, when compared to using a SaaS or running on VMs or bare metal. Often the most challenging task is selecting the right tool chain among the thousands of tools available on GitHub.
