DevOps is a hot topic, but it’s a bit ambiguous. What do developers really need to know about DevOps? What is it? What ISN’T it? What difference does it make? We’ll start by examining “DevOps”, what it means to embrace it, and the various personnel involved. We consider the potential benefits associated with a DevOps approach and the risks associated with adopting it…and with not adopting it. We take a quick look at some of the tools and platforms that can be used to implement a productive DevOps environment, including (but not limited to):
* Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) software
* Infrastructure Build Automation tools
* Virtualization, Containerization, and Cloud options
Finally, we run a live scenario using several of the tools discussed to demonstrate the key components of a DevOps-committed lifestyle. We start from nothing, using available tooling to build the target platform in a scriptable, repeatable fashion…then demonstrate effective use of CI/CD software for a more streamlined and effective software build/test/deploy cycle…and finally show how containers and cloud services form the foundation upon which everything else is built.

Personalised technical accessibility training: a case study

Tom, a leader at an organization, sought to improve ineffective pre-job briefs by turning them into mini operational learning sessions. Over several weeks, a team used the briefs to focus on frustrations, brainstorm improvements, prototype solutions, and implement changes. Their first project involved redesigning a difficult-to-operate diverter valve, relieving pain experienced by an operator nicknamed "Teaspoon".
Another organization found pre-task risk assessments were seen as bureaucratic and not improving safety. Through ethnographic research and surveys, they discovered frustrations with the process. Accelerating New Materials Design with Supercomputing and Machine Learning
Anubhav Jain gave a presentation summarizing his career in materials science research from high school internships through his current role leading the Materials Project. During his PhD and Alvarez fellowship, he developed high-throughput workflows and open source software like FireWorks to automate materials calculations. This allowed him to launch the Materials Project database and scale it up over time with a growing team. The Materials Project has now screened over 180,000 materials and led to successful experimental validations of computational predictions.
DevOps unraveled - Nyenrode masterclass on Agile Management
This session is an overview on what DevOps is (to me) and how it impacts traditional organizations the most. DevOps is way more than just continuous delivery! From an Agile (synergetic) mindset, DevOps takes a step beyond and focusses on automation, collaboration and learning. Apart from that I also look forward to what oppurtunities lie ahead when implementing DevOps.

Linux and open source careers are in high demand. Open source software powers much of the internet and is used widely by companies and organizations. The open source workforce is growing as Linux usage increases, especially for "big data" solutions. Getting an open source job requires education, experience contributing to open source projects, demonstrating passion for open source, and obtaining certifications like those from LPI to verify skills. LPI certification is valuable for employers and helps job seekers get interviews.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
