HTML5 or Android for Mobile Development?Reto Meier
Android apps or the mobile web? It's often a hard choice when deciding where to invest your mobile development resources. While the mobile web continues to grow, apps and app stores are incredibly popular. We will present both perspectives and offer some suggestions for making the most of each platform.
HTML5 is the latest evolution of the HTML standard and includes new elements, JavaScript APIs, and CSS features. It allows building richer web applications that work across browsers and devices without needing plugins like Flash. While support for HTML5 features is improving, the specification continues to evolve and not all browsers fully support all parts of HTML5 yet. Developing with HTML5 requires considering cross-browser compatibility and supporting different content formats. Overall, HTML5 provides opportunities for building richer applications on the web and on mobile, but full standardization and implementation is still ongoing.
HTML5 is the new standard for HTML that supports rich multimedia content like video and audio with tags like <video> and <audio>. It also improves the semantic structure of documents. Currently, browsers like Firefox, Chrome, and Safari support HTML5 to varying degrees, while Internet Explorer 9 will provide support later in 2011. HTML5 can be used for rich websites, web apps, and many mobile apps on devices that support it like iPhone, iPad, and Android phones. While HTML5 has benefits for eLearning like mobile learning and interactive content, tools are still needed to easily create HTML5 content and many eLearning courses will continue to use Flash for now due to its current dominance and expertise with Flash developers.
This document discusses PhoneGap, an open-source framework that allows developers to build mobile applications using standardized web APIs for accessing native device functions on various mobile platforms. It provides an overview of PhoneGap's history and goals of supporting web apps as first-class platforms, outlines its licensing and commitment to open web standards, and describes how it uses a bridge technique to enable calling native device APIs from JavaScript. The document also discusses PhoneGap's platform support, upcoming roadmap priorities around plugins, performance, security and tooling, and how it aims to support common development tasks through tools and automation.
The document provides an overview of HTML5 features and recommendations for adopting them today. It discusses core technologies like semantic elements, Canvas, geolocation, audio/video, and web storage. For each technology, it covers browser support, recommendations on whether it can be used now, and polyfill options. The document aims to help practitioners embrace new HTML5 features while addressing cross-browser compatibility issues.

HTML5 Trends + Cascade Server CMS by Uzo Okaforhannonhill
Hannon Hill Services Trainer Uzo Okafor will discuss the significance of HTML5 as it relates to web content management--specifically its implications for mobile and tablet content consumption. He will give us cases in Cascade Server and provide best practices in using HTML5. He will also talk about the HTML5 support improvements released with Cascade Server 7.0.
1. HTML5 is not one big thing, but a collection of individual features that can be detected separately, like canvas, video, and geolocation.
2. You don't need to throw away existing HTML4 markup - HTML5 is backwards compatible so existing pages will still work. You can start using new HTML5 features without changing existing code.
3. It's easy to get started with HTML5 - changing the doctype to <!DOCTYPE html> allows use of new semantic elements without breaking existing markup.
The document discusses the future of mobile applications and frameworks. It covers HTML5 and cross-platform mobile development using PhoneGap. PhoneGap allows developing mobile apps using web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that can access native device capabilities and be deployed to various mobile platforms. The document provides an overview of PhoneGap, mobile design considerations, and an example of building a photo sharing application using PhoneGap.
HTML 5 and associated technologies like CSS3 are making the mobile web more capable. Key points include:
- HTML5 introduces tags for audio, video, offline storage and caching that allow richer mobile web applications.
- CSS3 adds features like shadows, gradients, rounded corners, transitions and 3D transforms that improve visuals on mobile.
- Gesture events in WebKit allow detection of swipes, pinches and other gestures on touchscreens.
- HTML5 APIs for local storage, databases and the application cache enable offline functionality in mobile web apps.
- While support varies, most mobile browsers now support many HTML5 and CSS3 features, allowing enhanced mobile web experiences.
This document provides an overview of Internet Explorer 9 and HTML5 for developers. It discusses what HTML5 means and includes new tags. It covers the history of HTML5 and how it came to be. The presentation demonstrates several new HTML5 features such as canvas, drag and drop, local storage, and multimedia capabilities without plugins. It also discusses whether HTML5 is right for applications with limited resources or those targeting mobile audiences.

HTML5 seems to stuck in a rut: we got people very excited about it but at the same time we told them it doesn't work and needs a special environment and all kind of other quick shots. Now is the time to look at HTML5 closer again and take a look at where we stand. We're in good shape, we just need to look at the mirror again.
Sarah Dutkiewicz gave a presentation on HTML5 to Euclid High School students. The presentation covered what HTML5 is, why it is important, both the limitations and capabilities of HTML5, and demonstrated some fun websites that use HTML5 features. The agenda included discussing the bad parts of HTML5 like browser support issues, the good parts like new input types and multimedia, and finally showed examples of sites using HTML5 through demos and screenshots.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

AI 101: An Introduction to the Basics and Impact of Artificial IntelligenceIndexBug
Imagine a world where machines not only perform tasks but also learn, adapt, and make decisions. This is the promise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a technology that's not just enhancing our lives but revolutionizing entire industries.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
