Erik Erikson was a stage theorist who modified Freud's psychosexual theory into an eight-stage psychosocial theory of development. During each stage, two conflicting ideas must be resolved for healthy development, and failure to do so can lead to inadequacy. Erikson also considered how cultural factors may influence how different societies resolve developmental stages.
