the sky, it will rain for the people and save their crops. The other dragons agreed
to this without doubt. After doing this and saving the people, the god of the sea
discovered these events and reported them to the Jade Emperor. He became
furious and had them arrested. He then ordered the Mountain God to obtain four
mountains to lay them upon so that they can never escape. Even though they were
imprisoned, they never regretted what they did. Determined to keep on doing
good for the people, the dragons decided to turn themselves into fours rivers,
which flowed past high mountains and deep valleys, crossing the from the west to
the east and finally emptying into the sea. And so China’s rivers were formed – the
Heilongjian (Black Dragon) in the north, the Huanghe (Yellow River) in central
China, the Changjiang (Yangtze or Long River) farther south and the Zhujiang
(Pearl) down in the very far south.
17. Location:
I’m deciding to keep the location in the same
area as it is stated in the book as it has great
significance towards the story as it tells a tale
about the dragons turning themselves into the
four rivers of China: Heilongjian (Black Dragon);
Haunghe (Yellow river); Changjiang (Yangtze or
Long river) and Zhujiang (Pearl). Therefore if I
decided to place it somewhere else for example
France, it would make no sense as the rivers in
France have different names than to the rivers
in China.
18. I decided to decide to maybe go with a font
of this style as although it’s to be shown as
a child’s book, it should still have some
sensibility. I decided to go with fonts that
also have use a serif style to be a bit more
entertaining and easier to read for the child.
I think out of the ones that I decided to go
for either ChinChan or Cali Brush as the
style of the font also works with the origin
of the tale. The others can work as the
writing is a lot more ‘fixed’ rather than with
curves and an italic look which can make the
writing possibly easier to read if a younger
child easier to read.

20. Deadline
Audience
For my audience I’m going around children of the age between 5 – 8 years old. This is because
the book is simple writing, yet not too much in detail for them and not enough for older
children. The book is for both male and female audiences as it’s more historical rather than set
to a gender. It can be read in any location for example if it was being read in China, they’d be
learning about an old tale that originated from their country and if it was being read in Spain
or England, they’d be learning about a tale from a different country and their mythology. I’d
say the readers may want to enjoy mythological creatures such as dragons and Gods of seas
and mountains and enjoy happy endings.
Production Methods
I would produce my pages by illustrating them. This is because since the story is an
old story and by writing and drawing them myself would give the book a more of an
older feel to stay with the style along with font and drawings. I may use rotoscope
to aid me at some points with the drawings. To give the book an even older feel, I
may age the pages by using coffee and red wine to give the pages a more worn out
look. If not, I could probably scan the pages and edit the pages on Photoshop so the
pages still look old, however not damaged.

25. Original Script:
Once upon a time, there were no rivers and lakes on earth, but only the Eastern Sea, in which lived four dragons: the Long Dragon, the Yellow Dragon, the Black
Dragon and the Pearl Dragon. One day the four dragons flew from the sea into the sky. They soared and dived, playing at hide-and-seek in the clouds.
"Come over here quickly!" the Pearl Dragon cried out suddenly.
"What's up?" asked the other three, looking down in the direction where the Pearl Dragon pointed.
On the earth they saw many people putting out fruits and cakes, and burning incense sticks. They were praying! A white-haired woman, kneeling on the ground with
a thin boy on her back, murmured,
"Please send rain quickly, God of Heaven, to give our children rice to eat."
For there had been no rain for a long time. The crops withered, the grass turned yellow and fields cracked under the scorching sun.
"How poor the people are!" said the Yellow Dragon. "And they will die if it doesn't rain soon."
The Long Dragon nodded. Then he suggested, "Let's go and beg the Jade Emperor for rain."
So saying, he leapt into the clouds. The others followed closely and flew towards the Heavenly Palace. Being in charge of all the affairs in heaven on earth and in the
sea, the Jade Emperor was very powerful. He was not pleased to see the dragons rushing in.
"Why do you come here instead of staying in the sea and behaving yourselves?"
The Long Dragon stepped forward and said, "The crops on earth are withering and dying, Your Majesty. I beg you to send rain down quickly!"
"All right. You go back first, I'll send some rain down tomorrow." The Jade Emperor pretended to agree while listening to the songs of the fairies.
The four dragons responded, "Thanks, Your Majesty!"
The four dragons went happily back. But ten days passed, and not a drop of rain came down. The people suffered more, some eating bark, some grass roots, some
forced to eat white clay when they ran out of bark and grass roots. Seeing all this, the four dragons felt very sorry, for they knew the Jade Emperor only cared about
pleasure, and never took the people to heart. They could only rely on themselves to relieve the people of their miseries. But how to do it? Seeing the vast sea, the
Long Dragon said that he had an idea.
"What is it? Out with it, quickly!" the other three demanded.
"Look, is there not plenty of water in the sea where we live? We should scoop it up and spray it towards the sky. The water will be like rain drops and come down to
save the people and their crops," said Long Dragon.
"Good idea!" said the others as they clapped their hands.
"But," said the Long Dragon after thinking a bit, "we will be blamed if the Jade Emperor learns of this."
"I will do anything to save the people," the Yellow Dragon said resolutely.
"Then let's begin. We will never regret it," said Long Dragon.
The Black Dragon and the Pearl Dragon were not to be outdone. They flew to the sea, scooped up water in their mouths, and then flew back into the sky, where they
sprayed the water out over the earth. The four dragons flew back and forth, making the sky dark all around. Before long the seawater became rain pouring down
from the sky.
"It's raining! It's raining! The crops will be saved!" the people cried and leaped with joy.
On the ground the wheat stalks raised their heads and the sorghum stalks straightened up. The god of the sea discovered these events and reported to the Jade
Emperor.
"How dare the four dragons bring rain without my permission!" said the Jade Emperor.
The Jade Emperor was enraged, and ordered the heavenly generals and their troops to arrest the four dragons. Being far outnumbered, the four dragons could not
defend themselves, and they were soon arrested and brought back to the heavenly palace.
"Go and get four mountains to lay upon them so that they can never escape!" The Jade Emperor ordered the Mountain God.
The Mountain God used his magic power to make four mountains fly there, whistling in the wind from afar, and pressed them down upon the four dragons.
Imprisoned as they were, they never regretted their actions. Determined to do good for the people forever, they turned themselves into four rivers, which flowed
past high mountains and deep valleys, crossing the land from the west to the east and finally emptying into the sea. And so China's four great rivers were formed --
the Heilongjian (Black Dragon) in the far north, the Huanghe (Yellow River) in central China, the Changjiang (Yangtze, or Long River) farther south, and the Zhujiang
(Pearl) in the very far south.
26. The Four Dragons breakdown:
1. The dragons are playing hide and seek
2. The dragons see that the people in sorrow and have no water so they can’t grow food
3. The Long dragon says that they should go and the Jade Emperor and the others agree.
4. The dragons beg the emperor to send rain down to the people
6. Ten days have passed and no rain has been sent.
5. The emperor says that he shall send rain down the next day and the dragons jump for joy.
7. The dragons are confused and wonder why that no rain has been sent and they see that
the people are in more peril and have even less food and water.
8. The long dragon says that they should go and get water from the east sea and spray over the people as rain
and the others agree.
9. After doing so and seeing everyone in happy the dragons feel happy and proud to help.
10. However the Emperor finds out and has them captured and placed on 4 mountains (one on each) for
eternity.
11. The dragons decide to turn themselves into 4 rivers (one for each dragon) ranging from mountains to
valleys all over China to aid the people.
28. Final Script:
1: Once upon a time, there was only the Eastern sea, in which four Dragons lived: the Long Dragon, the Yellow
Dragon, the Black Dragon and the Pearl Dragon. Everything seemed peaceful, however one day…..
2: “Everyone! Look at this!” Pearl Dragon yells to the others. The Dragons see the people in sadness as their
crops have died due to no rain has fallen down. “This is horrible! We have to help them.” Said Yellow Dragon.
3: “We should go ask the Jade Emperor to send down rain to the people.” Said Long Dragon “ That’s a great
idea!” Said Black Dragon. So they fly off with haste to go and see the Jade Emperor.
4: The Four Dragons arrive at the castle of the Jade Emperor and Long Dragon quickly steps forward. “My Lord,
the people are in big trouble! There has been no rain for the people and their crops have begun to whither
away. I beg of you, please send down some rain to the people to help them!”
5: The Emperor thinks for a second and replies. “I shall send rain down on the people tomorrow.” The Dragons
praise the Emperor for his act……
6:However after ten days of waiting…..not a single drop of rain has fallen.
7: The Dragons felt very sorry for the people, for they knew that the Emperor never appreciated the people. “I
can’t believe it. Not a single drop rain.” Said Yellow Dragon. Black Dragon shouts. “It’s been ten days!” “What
shall we do?” Pearl Dragon said sorrowfully.
8: Long Dragon suddenly shouts. “I’ve got an idea! Since we have such large mouths, we can use them to get
water from the sea and spray it into the sky like rain for the people to help them with their crops!” All the others
agree with excitement.
9: The Dragons then go to the sea, scoop loads of water into their mouths and spray it into the air as if rain was
falling down from the sky. The Dragons feel happy and prideful as the people cry and jump for joy.
10: However, the Jade Emperor hears of their actions and becomes furious! He orders them to the castle. “How
dare you Four Dragons do this without my permission!? Take them away!” He then punishes the dragons by
placing them on four separate mountains forever. But the dragons do not regret their actions.
11: With this in mind, the Dragons decide to dedicate their lives to the people by creating four rivers so that the
people will never go into drought again so that they can live happily for the rest of their lives.
12:
