1. A STORY OF A ROTTEN APPLE
A wealthy landlord had an only child - A 10-year-old boy who was a bright student and
lived a comfortable urban life. He loved going to school. His teachers praised him for
his excellence and achievements.
Sadly, he was unaware of the dislikes of all the jealous kids masked behind their
innocent faces. Soon the bullies emerged and started urging him to do bad things.
Gradually, he fell prey to their daily prompts, getting provoked. He started lying to his
teachers and parents so that he could sneak out and skip classes. He also developed a
bad habit of playing mean pranks and was rude to everyone. He started cheating to win
and his true nature got buried deep inside.
Seeing his son falling into bad company, the father grew anxious and concluded to
teach him a lesson. Henceforth, one day he brought fresh apples along with one rotten
apple on purpose and told his son to put all of them in the fruit basket. He obeyed and
did as told.
After some days, the father asked his son to bring the apples. He went to fetch them
from the basket but as soon as he lifted the lid, he was surprised to discover that all
the apples had rotted! He was mystified by this incident. “How did this happen?” he
asked his father.
At this, his father smiled and told him to see how one rotten apple had spoiled all the
rest. Similarly, one bad companion could spoil all others. The father's advice had the
desired effect. The boy gave up bad company and became good again.
