1. Dawn of the dead (2004)
This film starts out with a nurse going home to her family, the mood is calm with
uplifting music playing on the radio of her car to help set the scene of this normal
evening after work. The camera shots are slow and casual, creating a calm
transition sequence.
But the film soon gets in full swing as once she gets home she is attacked by her
next door neighbors daughter and her husband. The music and sound effects get
faster, lauder and more intense. The shots become jumpy and aggressive with
intense zooming. There is a build up of tension and this connects physically with
the audience, as they will feel as if they are living through the scene with the
characters, becoming frightened.
2. Dawn of the Dead (1978)
The original ‘Dawn of the Dead’ film starts off in a news presenting office with
everyone arguing (commotion, loud over powering voices, with unnerving music
and sound effects in the background set the scene.) they are trying to announce
that there has been a breakout of dead people coming back to life and attacking
the living. But it isn’t going well as most of the crew working in the news office
don’t accept the concept of zombies.
The next scene you see is a S.W.A.T team clearing out a building full of men with
guns. (gunfire, screams and unnerving music set the scene and build tension.)
The men and woman that the team shoot come back to life and attack them, the
team almost fail to stop the zombies as a few people from the house are eaten.
These are the first zombies that the audience see in the film and they proved
difficult to handle; this builds fear and tension for the audience.
