What is
DESSA?
DESSA stands for Devereux Students
Strengths Assessment
DESSA is a social emotional learning assessment that is used to
monitor your students social and emotional development throughout
the school year.
DESSA is a standardized, strength-based behavior rating scale that
is typically completed in 5-8 minutes (per child).
It is used by educators to measure a child’s social-emotional capacity
for children from kindergarten to 8th grade.
What are the
benefits of
DESSA?
Benefits of DESSA
In completing the assessment for the child, the child will then be placed under a category to
determine whether they’re: Typical, Struggling and need help with instruction, or Strength.
Seeing which category our students fall under will then help us learn how to best support
them in the classroom. This can be done by utilizing your “aperture” account and toggling
over to the resources section to learn about what you can implement during lessons to
further assist the struggling students in developing their literacy skills.

Please take your time in
answering the questions for each
student.
To gather accurate information for
each child, you must be engaging
daily with your whole class, or else
you won’t know how to answer
certain questions.
For best results, utilize the
resources on the website to help
your students in the areas they
struggle in.
DESSA Assessments
Oct 20 Dec 20 Feb 20
Assessments are due quarterly. This means 4 assessments throughout afterschool is
in session. These assessments will help us see if there’s any progress or great strides
that our students are making.
Leads have accounts, this should not limit the work that
the Assistants are doing. They are just as involved in a
classroom. Co-teachers must reach out to each other to
collaborate and work together on this.
