3. EMPATHISE
• 1960s was a tough phase for Ford because of their declining
sales.
• Youth wanted a fast car that could win races.
• Ford identified this as their problem.
4. DEFINE
• Ford defined the problem as the need to build a high
performance sports car
• Thier car must outshine ferrari
• Ford set their goal- to win Le Mans
5. IDEATE
• Ken Miles proposed the idea of using the braking system to
cool the breaks
• Ford set an impossible goal and achieved it, which is an
example of ideation at the executive level changing the
organisation down to its roots.
6. PROTOTYPE
• Each prototype failure made
the team experiment with new
ideas.
• The GT40 had multiple issues
that needed to be solved.
• They faced multiple braking
issues and overheating at first
• the cumulative effect of testing
failure and adaptation guided
Ford to their final winning
solution.
7. TEST
• Ford subjected the GT40 to various stress tests that pushed
the car to its limits.
• Fords aerodynamic team helped on the car’s last minute
changes, making the car easier to control at high speeds.
• All of these testing methods played an essential role in Ford’s
success in breaking Ferrari’s winning streak in the event.
9. EMPATHISE
• Space Debris : On time use Rockets remain in the orbit
around earth possessing a risk of collision with operational
satellites
• Costs : Developing and building rockets for every mission is
huge endevour .
• Environmentl Impact : Rocketry requires significant amount
of consumption , hence contributing to resource wastage
and carbon emission.
10. DEFINE
• Spacex’s efforts to recover and manage their debris have
been designed to minimise the impact on ocean and marine
life
• One time use space rocket contribute to space debris.
• Trace amount of chemicals and propellants used during the
launch proess could potentially contaminate the ocean when
the debris enter it.
11. IDEATE
• Even though this problem did possess its solution , but the
solutions were themselves very expensive , like using of
harpoons and nets to de-orbit the space junk.
• Rather than this expensive route, SpaceX developed a
modular payload delivery system , AI optimized launch
trajectory , multi stage reusability and moving platforms for
vertical landing of rocket propellors.
12. PROTOTYPE
• Earliest prototype was
grasshopper, which made 8
successful test flights.
• Two prototypes were built and
launched from the ground.
• Second prototype was Falcon 9
whch was larger and more
capable.
• Both Grasshopper and F9R Dev
programs played pivotal roles in
laying the foundation for the
creation of Falcon 9.
13. TEST
• Testing in rocketry is of various essence such as component
testing for testing of various devices and electronics , Then
comes Small scale testing , after running down a few
simulations uncrewed full scale flight takes place . These
tests are done in order to celebrate the rockets capabilities
and rectify its flaws.
