The document describes the challenges faced by a company in synchronizing design and development teams. Key issues included lack of communication around colors and text styles, difficulty making widespread changes, and inconsistencies across platforms. To solve these, the company built a design system called Prism to generate style code from a single source of truth. Prism uses templates to flexibly output code for multiple platforms like iOS and Android from the shared design specs. This helped keep design and development in sync.
There is often a vocabulary gap between designers an developers, who should aim towards a ubiquitous way of conversing about colours, typography, viewport sizes, or the responsive grid system of a digital product… To bridge this gap at the Guardian, we use a CSS pre-processor as a communication enabler through the abstractions it allows us to put in place.

A React Native app is a real mobile app
With React Native, you don't build a “mobile web app”, an “HTML5 app”, or a “hybrid app”. You build a real mobile app that's indistinguishable from an app built using Objective-C or Java. React Native uses the same fundamental UI building blocks as regular iOS and Android apps. You just put those building blocks together using JavaScript and React.

2016 has been a watershed year for UI design tools. Adobe finally launched XD, their direct competitor to Sketch. Sketch itself has not stopped evolving and is about to switch to a subscription model, and the venerable Photoshop remains a default install for many a UI and visual designer.
Though UI design is only one aspect of UX, it is the part of the process that defines the look and feel, as well as creating the assets for development. In that respect, choosing the best tool can have a big impact on both the quality of the designer’s work as well as their efficiency.
So, has the rise of Sketch and the advent of XD changed the playing field? Visual designer Rob Musser presents his analysis of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, and Sketch.

Dealing with multiple teams in a product development organization is always a challenge.
I would like to share with you a live case study about how we switched from a traditional R&D structure into a small product oriented start-up’s teams.
These are some of the challenges we had to deal with:
How to brake a single product development team into small pieces while keeping autonomy and productivity?
How to use technical guilds to maintain a high technical level, personal development and collaboration between the “distributed” development team?
How to create a culture, based on developer accountability even without a direct manager around?
How to maintain high developers utilization in a small heterogenous feature team (iOS, Android, Web, Infrastructure)?
How we use release trains model for lean development in cross mobile platforms world and, what is our strategy for continuous delivery implementation.
I invite you to hear our personal experience about growing from a small start-up, to a middle size development organization. I invite you to hear how we maintained our developer happiness, start-up culture, productivity and giving each team members the ability to affect the product development (in both product and technical aspects).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
