1. Rhodia – Oldbury
Produces a range of different chemicals, all
based on phosphorus.
Upto 100,000 tonnes p.a. On a wide range of
products
Over 150 different products
2. The Design Brief – Background
Figure 1: Simplified chemical structure of acetodiphosphonic
acid (ADPA)
The Oldbury site currently manufactures 6000 tonnes per year of ADPA, but
recent expansion particularly in the Middle East of desalination has led to a
significant increase in demand for ADPA. It is estimated that a doubling of
capacity to produce ADPA at the Oldbury site will be required over the next 5
years.
The current facility is at capacity having been fully de-bottlenecked and
further expansion of the plant is not physically possible
3. The Design Brief
• Design and cost an ADPA production facility to produce
6000 tn/yr.
• Design and cost any associated services required.
• Design and cost any new buildings, supporting
structures to accommodate the new production facility
and associated services.
• Explore the possibility of re-using the redundant
buildings with appropriate adaption, propose and cost
any solutions for due assessment and adaption.
• The proposed design should be integrated with and so
not compromise the operation of the site.
