This document outlines the tasks and requirements for designing a new speaker system. It includes identifying the target market, understanding their needs, developing a design brief, performing analysis through a mind map, and generating initial design ideas through annotated sketches. The goals are to develop skills in working from a design brief, sketching, justifying designs, model making, and creating a quality design portfolio.
2. Learning Intentions By the end of this unit you should have: Developed skills in working to a design brief Developed skills in sketching Developed levels of justification in sketches Developed your skills in model making Develop skills in producing a QUALITY design folio
3. Task 1 – Identify a Target Market It is imperative that as a designer we are fully aware of who we are designing for. Complete the A3 sheet giving as much detail as possible about ‘Joe Bloggs’ in your target market
4. Task 2 - Target Market Need Describe the need for your product in about 2 paragraphs. What is the product? Who is the target market – exactly? Why is there a need for this product?
5. Task 3 - Design Brief Describe clearly what the target market need is and what you are going to do to solve it. What are you designing? What products is it suitable for? How are you going to fit it into the target market? What will make it unique and unlike any other speaker system?
6. Analysis The Analysis is essentially your first stage of research. It is often presented in the form of a mind map
7. Task 4 – Analysis of Design Brief Location – Where can we use it? User- What type of person will use it? Function - What must the product do? Manufacture – How can we manufacture it?
