Design Specification:
The poster is designed to advertise different groups of people to join at the
International School event. To do so, attracting both the audience and the talented is
vital. So what distinguishes a good poster from a bad one?
Fig. 1 (The X Factor poster) Fig. 2 (American’s got Talent poster)
As shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, a good poster should include a logo, a catch phrase, a
set of requirements in order to participate at the event, included a colourful and simple
design, and most importantly a picture. These features, which are captivating,
informative and entertaining, are needed to meet the criterion of a successful poster.
Fig.3 Fig.4
A bad poster, on the other does not include all of these things. If a poster has only a
picture it may not fully deliver the content of the message. If a poster has only writing
with no pictures, it might not be attractive and entertaining (fig.3). If a poster includes
too many words, it might be boring and repugnant to us (fig.4). So people would not
be interested too much.
Bearing in mind all of these features, my poster will follow a set of characteristics:
Excel file
1. The aim of a poster is to publicise about the event to different people. Therefore the
functions include attracting people, cultivating their interest by challenging them,
inform about the event and make it memorable among the people.
2. In order to do so everything stated above, decorating the poster is important too.
Fancy and colourful pictures, logos and writing can capture people’s attention straight
away. Creative font styles can be made using PowerPoint, while the colour can be
done using Paint. Sleek presentation is going to impact on people’s mind, so the use
of PowerPoint is very useful.
3. The content of the poster must include, albeit briefly, information to the talented
people on how to participate, information to the audience on the location and on the
time of the event (i.e. grouping all these requirements in a list), and a captivating
picture that represent the event (i.e. a microphone, people singing, a judge, a star,
etc.…). The purpose of this is to inform all the people about this upcoming event at
the school. Posters have to tell a lot just by simply looking at it for a few moments.
Therefore, a concise content is crucial.
4. The materials to be used in this poster are:
Poster paper
Marker pen – Can be used for the logo, information, etc…
Paint – Can be used to colour the logo or the poster
Pictures printed designed on Photoshop
Very few materials are needed, nonetheless essential to make the poster.
5. The size of the poster is going to be 30cm x 40cm. The poster cannot be too big, as
it has to fit within the school’s wall. The main image has to cover at least more than
of the page – this is done to captivate and entertain people. The font and the style can
be personalised.
