3. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The internet has made information easily accessible, leading to increased plagiarism and project
duplication in educational institutions. Final-year projects are essential for university graduation and
significantly impact students' final grades (Lamido et al., 2023). Plagiarism, or copying work without
permission, is a significant issue (Abraham et al., 2007). Traditionally, students select or are assigned
project topics, which can lead to organizational challenges and duplication.
Studies show that plagiarism is common in universities worldwide, including the UK, USA, and Taiwan
(Gareth et al., 1996; Daniel et al., 2010; Lin & Wen, 2007). In Nigeria, managing student projects is often
manual, resulting in inefficiencies and errors (Manlove & Olaosebikan, 2022). This study aims to develop a
system to allocate projects efficiently and ensure no two students work on the same project. Existing
systems typically only store project titles to avoid duplication but lack allocation capabilities. This research
proposes a comprehensive system to allocate projects and verify their uniqueness, improving efficiency
and reducing the workload for both students and supervisors (Adewole & Ike, 2013).

4. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Amadi et al. (2021) identified several issues with project allocations, including supervisors' inability
to track approved topics, improper documentation, and inefficiencies in record-keeping. Manual
processes hinder access to supervisors and lead to topic duplication. This traditional approach
alters research flow and diminishes the significance of project writing, which is vital for students'
education. Hence, there's a need to reconsider manual allocation methods and prioritize project
writing's educational value in higher institutions.

5. Aim and objectives
This project aims to develop a system for the institution to help in project allocation and verification to
help reduce the number of projects duplicated in the department. The objectives are:
1. To design a feature that allows supervisors to give students project topic to write on.
2. To design a database for proposed and ongoing projects that will store the objectives scope and
tools.
3. To implement a feature that will monitor the progress and outcome of ongoing projects.
4. To design a feature that will allow students who have concluded their projects share their insights,
knowledge and lesson learnt from project experience.
5. To design a feature that allows both the supervisor and supervisee chat communicate with the
app so as to share ideas and resources.

6. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
1. Ismaili, Yahiro, & Yokoo (2019) proposed a model (based on two-sided matching problem) called Student-Project-Resource
matching allocation (SPR) for optimal allocation of Project topics to students. In this idea, students are matched to projects based on
their preferences. In addition, the system incorporates resource allocation mechanism, which determines the resource allocation part,
based on some expectations or past data and fixes the Capacities of projects.
2. Emmanuel and Daniel (2019) developed a cloud-based system for project allocation and supervision intended for tertiary institutions
in Nigeria. The system was designed with PHP, JavaScript and HTML programming languages using MySQL server architecture which
could be hosted online. The application is a window based on the ability of the intended users to access the system online. In reality, it
is an online platform through which students interact with their supervisors. However, the system does not verify and allocate projects
automatically; rather, everything is done almost manually by the administrator.
3. Yash Raj (2020) developed a web-based system which manages the activity of “Student Project Management and Allocation “. This
was implemented to manage the database and maintain a lot of all student or groups of students that have registered as finalists in the
database. The programming language used is Microsoft ASP.NET. However, this system is able to check duplications by disregarding
repeated data but allows different students from different supervisors take the same project at a time.

7. Knowledge Gap
Even though there are systems out there to manage student projects, many
of them aren't good at preventing students from working on the same
project or assigning projects automatically. This means there's a chance for
mistakes and copying to happen. Our goal is to create a better system that
can do these tasks more effectively, making it easier for students and
teachers to manage projects without duplication.

8. PROPOSED METHODOLOGY: OBJECT ORIENTED ANALYSIS AND DESIGN
Agile software development is a type of methodology that is based on flexibility,
efficiency, collaboration between teams. It involves breaking down the project into
phases. It has different frameworks like Scum, Lean, Crystal, Kanban and much
more.
Scum is the most popular agile framework. It involves breaking down a project into
smaller parts also known as sprint.

17. SUMMARY
The objective of this project was to create a system for institutions to aid in project allocation and verification, thereby
preventing duplicate projects within departments. During the documentation phase, we conducted a thorough analysis of
existing systems, which informed the development of a superior algorithm and operational model for our own system. The
system's activities were meticulously outlined with the help of use case diagrams and flowcharts, illustrating its various
functions and processes.
The resulting system allows students who have completed their projects to share their insights, knowledge, and lessons
learned. Additionally, it facilitates effective communication between supervisors and supervisees through an integrated chat
feature, enabling the exchange of ideas and resources. This enhances collaboration and ensures a more streamlined project
management process within educational institutions. The combination of these features makes the system a valuable tool
for improving project oversight and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

18. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this system acts as an online medium for both lecturers and students. The verification system for
monitoring duplications missing in some of the systems of the studies reviewed were added in this study. This
system will specifically help reduce the workload of supervisors and students. The supervisor/lecturer is able to
select a number of students to supervise with the ability to communicate with students, review, view the
progress of the students and indicate the end of the project when completed. Finally, we have come to the end of
this research as this section stands to conclude the objectives that were defined earlier on. However, this is not
the conclusion of this research instead it would continue to develop and add a lot of new features like an
interactive feed for homepage, and other cool features.

19. RECOMMENDATIONS
This system is recommended to all students and supervisors of different institutions, it stands to offer features
that are unique to the specific needs of both the students and lecturer by prioritizing user experience with a
visually appealing design and an interface that’s easy to navigate through. For better performance along the
years, System maintenance and updates should also be carried out on both to software and system functionality
to maximize continuous access to the system to further meet additional user requirements.
