● Use AWS Cost Explorer
● Use AWS Budgets
● Consider using AWS Trusted Advisor
● Implement Elasticity - Auto scaling, turning off unused instances, etc
● Consider CloudCheckr
● Use correct pricing model:
○ EC2: On-Demand, RI, Spot
○ S3: Standard, Standard IA, One-Zone IA, Glacier
● Measure, Monitor and Improve
○ Lots of money wasted on redundant or non-valuable storage
○ Cost Allocation tags

9. Smaller = Cheaper ?
Not always:
Compute-intensive Lambdas are cheaper when adding more memory: 2X
memory could improve performance 4X
EC2: Bigger spot instance running less time cheaper than smaller instance
running always
Sometimes:
Autoscaling smaller instances more efficient than keeping fewer larger
instances

AWS Offers the Cost Optimization Monitor, a free (ex. usage) solution that
provides a Kibana dashboard to visualize your costs at a detail level.
