1) To practice dentistry in Canada without a DDS degree, one must complete a multi-step equivalency and licensing process involving assessments, exams, and fees totaling over $10,000 Canadian dollars. 2) The process includes an assessment of fundamental knowledge involving multiple choice questions, an assessment of clinical skills involving various procedures, and an assessment of clinical judgment involving diagnosis and decision making. 3) The final step is passing the National Dental Examining Board licensing exam, which consists of multiple choice and station-based clinical skills portions. Upon completing this process, one becomes a certified dentist in Canada.

2 books: each with 150 multiple-choice type questions.
Each book is given in a three (3) hour session.
The sessions are held in the morning and afternoon of one day

Session 1: Basic Sciences – 150 MCQ’s
Session 2: Clinical Sciences – 150 MCQ’s
75 score is PASS : 3 attempts allowed

4. Assessment of Clinical Skills
(Pass – 75) – June 2015
2 day exam covering following procedures:
Class II amalgam preparation
Anterior composite resin preparation
Full metal crown preparation
Restore a prepared tooth with a Class II composite and amalgam
PFM crown preparation
Endodontic access preparation
Temporary crown restoration for a pre-prepared PFM crown
preparation
Restore a prepared tooth with Class IV direct composite
Apply a rubber dam

5. Assessment of Clinical Judgement
 3rd day
Books 1A and 1B:
 Diagnosis, Treatment Planning and Clinical Decision Making
 MCQ’s will evaluate the participant’s ability to formulate a diagnosis
and to make clinical decisions.
 Patient histories, dental charts, and diagnostic casts will be provided
for patients of all ages, including those with special needs.
Book 2:
 Radiographic Interpretation
 MCQ’s using photographic prints of dental radiographs, will evaluate
the participant’s knowledge in oral radiology and ability to make a
radiographic interpretation and diagnosis.

6. Equivalency Process Complete:
Now Licensing Exam is last step: Pass is 65

7. OSCE
The OSCE is a station type examination comprised of a morning
session and an afternoon session on the same day.
The majority of the stations will have 2 questions and will
require the candidate to review the information supplied (e.g.
case history, photographs, radiographs, casts, models) and
answer MCQ’s.
