Jesus calms a storm on a lake and heals a demon-possessed man. When they arrive at Gerasenes, a man possessed by demons comes to meet Jesus. The demons recognize Jesus and beg him not to torture them. Jesus commands the demons to leave the man. The demons then enter a herd of pigs, causing them to run into the lake and drown. The healed man is found sitting at Jesus' feet, fully clothed and sane. The people then beg Jesus to leave their town.

Book of Mark

The Gospel accounts describe how Jesus' disciples were afraid during the storm until he calmed it, and how he healed a man near Gerasene who was living in tombs possessed by demons named Legion until Jesus commanded the demons to leave the man and enter the pigs.
Gracious Jesus 32: Jesus Delivers
Satan had destroyed a man by disconnecting him from God, entrapping him in an impure surroundings, and manipulating him into injuring himself. This man, possessed by an evil spirit called Legion, lived among tombs. When Jesus encountered him, he delivered the man by commanding the evil spirit to come out. Jesus' liberation defeated Satan and his numerous strong forces. However, the local people were repulsed by this and begged Jesus to leave their region, as they feared the loss of their possessions. The formerly possessed man then felt compelled to proclaim all that Jesus had done for him and how he had shown mercy.

Pilate argued that Jesus was innocent but the crowd demanded He be crucified instead of the criminal Barabbas. Jesus suffered greatly carrying His cross and was crucified between two thieves. One thief mocked Jesus while the other recognized His innocence and asked to be remembered by Jesus in His kingdom. Jesus promised him salvation. With His dying words, Jesus commended His spirit to God and died, and events like an earthquake and temple curtain tearing showed God's involvement in His death.
