The document describes how to mount a wheel and tire assembly onto the NewArcTM Model SRS1 steel wheel machine. The assembly can then be configured for the patented dual-axis straightening process. This process applies independent and alternating pressure from different angles in a massaging motion to provide maximum strain relief. It is more effective than other machines and often requires little or no heat for minor bends. For severe bends requiring prolonged heat, it is best to remove the tire first.

1. The photos on the following pages show how a wheel and tire assembly can be quickly mounted on the
NewArc™ Model SRS1 teel machine. The assembly can then be easily configured to perform the dual-axis
straightening process. The NewArc™ machine is the only device capable of this patented method, which is now
exclusively recognized by the Society of Automotive Engineers. For best results on bends requiring the
maximum allowable heat, the tire should always be removed.

2. The basic machine is compact and takes little floor space. It can easily be secured to the floor
of any mobile unit or used in a shop environment as well. The Pusher Platen can be seen
installed at the bottom of the Mainshaft. The wheel to be mounted here still has a tire on it.
Although tire-on straightening is possible with this machine, it is best to remove tires where
prolonged heating is required or on wheels having more severe bends. 2 of 20

3. The first step is to remove the Bronze Bushing and raise the Swing Arm. Friction hinges in the
Swing Arm construction will hold it in any position.

4. Next, lower the wheel and tire assembly over the Mainshaft and align the bolt holes with the
slots on the Mainshaft Platen.

5. Install the Centering Cone. Pushing the cone in place, ensures that the wheel is positioned on
its center axis in the same manner as when it is on a vehicle.

6. Once the bolt holes are aligned with the slots on the Mainshaft Platen, three Mounting Bolts
can be dropped into place. Then attach the washers and nut on the underside of the platen.
Leave them only finger tight until the Mainshaft Spanner Nut can be installed and tightened.

7. Install the Mainshaft Spanner Nut and spin it into place.

8. Tighten the Mainshaft Spanner Nut.

9. Tightening the Mounting Bolts on the underside of the platen secures the wheel in place.

10. Tip the assembly out of the machine frame.

11. After tipping the assembly out of the machine, remove the Lower Module from the bottom
of the Mainshaft. It will be reinstalled on the opposite end of the assembly.

12. Turn the wheel assembly around and install the Lower Module back on the Mainshaft.

13. After standing the Mainshaft back up, lower the Swing Arm and reinstall the Mainshaft
Bronze Bushing. Now the machine is ready for straightening setups.

14. The lower axis can now be installed with our custom ram extenders. If the bend is only
minor, one axis may be all that’s necessary. It is up the operator’s discretion.

15. If a second axis is desired, it can easily be installed at whatever angle the operator chooses.

16. It takes very little hydraulic pressure to keep the rams in place. They can easily be readjusted
to the exact position the operator chooses. Here the rams are shown at different angles but
are both in the same plane for applying straightening pressure.

17. The rams are shown here after being staggered into different planes. Moving the position of
the straightening forces creates a “massaging” motion, which is much gentler on the metal.

18. Independent and alternating dual-axis pressure is repeatedly applied with frequent position
changes. Only through this method can maximum strain relief be achieved. No other
machine is capable of this patented process. This method is so effective, little or no heat is
necessary for minor bends. 18

19. If heat is needed, the amount that can be applied to the bent area is limited with the tire on
but a little more can be used if the tire bead is broken down. This can be done while the
assembly is still mounted in place.

20. Once the bead is broken, additional heat can be applied to the damaged area. From there, if
it is determined still more heat is still needed, the tire should be removed.
