Definition Of Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Definition of Essays" is a task that may appear deceptively
straightforward at first glance, yet delving into the intricacies of the topic reveals a complexity
that demands thoughtful consideration. The challenge lies not only in presenting a concise and
clear definition but also in navigating the nuanced landscape of literary and academic discourse.
To begin with, the term "essay" itself has evolved over centuries, from the French word
"essayer," meaning to attempt or try. Essays are not merely compositions but rather a form of
expression that requires a delicate balance between creativity and structured analysis. One must
grapple with the challenge of defining a genre that encompasses a broad spectrum of styles, from
the personal and reflective to the analytical and argumentative.
The difficulty intensifies when attempting to encapsulate the essence of essays within the
confines of a single piece. It involves dissecting the diverse array of essay types—narrative,
descriptive, expository, persuasive, and more—and articulating their distinctive features.
Juggling between these different styles while maintaining coherence can be akin to navigating a
literary maze.
Moreover, the challenge extends beyond the theoretical aspect of the definition. An effective
essay on the definition of essays must transcend mere description and engage the reader
intellectually. This entails exploring the historical evolution of the essay, tracing its roots in
classical literature, and examining how it has morphed into a multifaceted literary form that
reflects the zeitgeist of each era.
The difficulty intensifies as one navigates through the vast sea of scholarly opinions and critical
perspectives on the subject. It demands not only a comprehensive understanding of the
theoretical frameworks but also the ability to synthesize information coherently. Balancing
academic rigor with accessibility is a tightrope walk that requires a nuanced approach to
language and argumentation.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the "Definition of Essays" is a challenging endeavor that
necessitates a deep understanding of the subject matter, a keen awareness of the nuances within
the literary landscape, and a deft touch in presenting complex ideas with clarity. It is an
intellectual journey that requires the writer to grapple with the ever-evolving nature of the essay,
from its historical roots to its contemporary manifestations.
For those seeking assistance with essays or similar tasks, a variety of resources are available,
including online platforms like HelpWriting.net, where expertly crafted essays and more can be
ordered to ease the burden of academic writing.

Indus River Valley Research Paper
The Indus River Valley is the best civilization out of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China,
and of course the Indus River Valley. I think this and believe this for many reasons.
One reason is that the Indus River Valley created a sewer system. Also, they build a
big grain bin that held all of their grain. There are some other things that the Indus
River Valley created.
The Indus River Valley created a sewer system. They were the first civilizationto
have a system like this. This helped keep their city a lot cleaner than it was without
one. It really helped because their system was underground. This is one of the
reasons I think the Indus River Valley is the best.
I also think the Indus River Valley is the most outstanding because they had a huge

Benefits Of Using Ppps Delivery Method
1.0Description of the Problem Each delivery method in the construction industry
has some challenges that need to be considered to get the project done on time
without any issue. Indeed, payment mechanisms play a major role in PPPs contracts
because they allocate the risks between the public and the private parties. Therefore,
they are essential because they reflect both of the levels of service required as well
as the most cost effective transfer of risk to the private entity . Since the PPPs are
used to develop public facilities , such as hospitals, roads, and defense facilities, we
have to pay more attention to the payment mechanisms and the risks that are
associated with these types of project. The main reason for that is they can
significantly affect the outcomes of the PPPs because they can influence the
incentives of the public and private entities to deliver the facility that must satisfy the
users requirements and needs . There is a few concerns come up when using PPPs
delivery method. One of the most important concerns is the effectiveness of the
payment mechanisms to achieve the government s objectives in a particular project.
Moreover, it is a fact that each payment mechanism has a unique advantage and
disadvantage. Therefore, the need to develop and investigate new payment
mechanisms has been raised to have a payment mechanism that has the most of the
available advantages in the other payment mechanisms. 2.0Research Questions or

The Negative Effects Of Alcohol On The Human Body
Effects of Alcohol on the Human Body
Many teenagers and adults drink alcohol. Often drinking makes a person feel
relaxed, confident, happy and sociable. However, would these good feelings be
enough, if that person knew the negative effects alcohol has on the human body?
Alcohol has immediate negative effects, but also causes long term damage, and can
even cause cancer. I believe if everyone had a better understanding of what alcohol
does to the human body, there might be a decrease in alcohol consumption. It is
important to understand the biology behind how the body digests alcohol; the
physical impairments caused by alcohol; the possible consequences of those
impairments; and the long term damage that alcohol can do to the body. When the
body digests alcohol, there are effects on almost every tissue and organ in the body.
According to www.quitalcohol.com, when alcohol is consumed, about one third of
it absorbs immediately into the blood through the stomach lining. The remainder
absorbs more slowly into the blood, through the small intestine. Once in the
bloodstream, alcohol diffuses into almost every biological tissue in the body.
Consuming alcohol causes the blood alcohol level to increase. The speed that a
person s blood alcohol level increases and the effect it has depends on a lot of
factors, including weight, age, gender, body composition, general health and the
presence of other drugs or medications. Regardless, any amount of alcohol in the
body will have

Wb Yeats As A Dynamic Poet
William Butler Yeats is one of the most renowned Anglo Irish poets and a winner
of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923. As a representative symbolist poet his
primary focus was to place his love for his origins, literature, philosophy and
history in his art. The world that he presents in his works is a mixture of natural,
human and cultural values. There is constant renewal, experimentation and utter
dedication to the craft of poetry in his works. Of all the poets in our course, WB
Yeats is easily our favorite. His poetry has a dynamic quality. Several aspects of his
poetry that appeal the most to us are the political or polemical dimension to his
work, his use of nature as a theme and his reflection on old age, body and the soul
and finally his discussion on mysticism and reincarnation of the... Show more content

One of the most important aims of poetry is to give the reader aesthetic pleasure.
But what is more important is that it should present reality truthfully and defend
human values artistically. It should envision a society where people can live a
better life. Yeats did just that. The greatness of his poetry lies in the fact that it
interprets the contemporary political events within the framework of a
philosophical system. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the petty
politics of their class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of
philosophy. Yeats too rose above the ephemerality of politics and made an attempt
to achieve permanence in poetry by following the philosophical system. Being
from an Anglo Irish family, he could have easily gone to the English side but what
he chose was to represent the repressed Irish people. He was a nationalist but he
spoke of all nations colonized by the British. He had a special sympathy for India.
As a poet he was concerned with human values and believed that there should be a
proper balance between the matter and
Short Summary Of Pyotr Tchaikovsky
Pyotr Tchaikovsky was one of the most loved composers in Russia. On May 7,
1840, in Votkinsk in the Vyatka region of Russia, Tchaikovsky was born to a
middle class family and was the second son of Lieutenant Colonel Ilya Petrovich
Tchaikovsky, chief mine inspector of the Kamsko Votkinsk mines and
metallurgical. Not much is said about Tchaikovsky mother, but we do know that
she, Alexandra Andreyevna, was the second wife out of three, had an ear for
music and played the piano, she was able to speak two languages: French and
German. The two had six children together and one child from his previous
marriage. At age four, Tchaikovsky composed his first piece Our Mama in
Petersburg , his father was impressed by the small composition, but thought it was a
phase. In 1844, the education of the young Tchaikovsky and his siblings was put in
the hands of Fanny DГјrbach, a twenty two year old French Governess. She noticed
that young Pyotr Tchaikovsky had different qualities from his brothers and sisters, he
did not care about his appearance, but he was very affectionate and had a big heart.
Fanny DГјrbach claimed that young Tchaikovsky would start tapping on the window
pane, playing a tune he that would be trapped in his head, she considered his
obsession with music unhealthy. (Pg. 13. Tchaikovsky , Weinstock.). In 1848, a
friend Tchaikovsky father urged him to retire from government service and was
promised him that ll he receive an excellent post at the capital. Persuaded be the
Essay Grave s Disease
The disease was first noted in 1786 by Caleb Hillier Parry 1755 1822, physician
from General Hospital, Bath, England. His account was published posthumously in
1825.
However Graves disease is named after the Irish physician who described several
cases in London Medical Journal in 1835. Graves disease is also known as Parry s
disease. In Europe, the disease is known as Basedow s disease. It is the most
common cause of thyrotoxicosis (the morbid condition due to over activity of the
thyroid gland).
The disorder has three major manifestations:
Hyperthyroidism with diffuse goiter
Ophthalmopathy
and Dermopathy
The three manifestations need not appear together. Indeed one or two never appear,
and moreover, the three may run ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the evidence that Graves disease is autoimmune in origin is quite
convincing.
Hyperthyroidism and goiter are immunologically mediated. It results from the
production of auto antibodies directed against the TSH ( thyroid stimulating
hormone) receptors on the thyroid follicular cells or closely related cell membrane
domains.
Auto antibodies are of two types:
TSI ( thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins) or TSH receptor antibodies ( TRAb)
which mimic the action of TSH and thereby inducing the hypersecretion of thyroid
hormones.
TGI ( thyroid growth stimulating immunoglobulins) which initiates the growth of
thyroid cells.
The question is what initiates these autoimmune reactions? The answer is not clear
but genetic, immune and environmental considerations are important.
In genetically predisposed individuals, infection with viruses or bacteria may serve
as a trigger. Certain strains of E. coli and Yersinia enterocolitica possess cell
membrane TSH receptors. The production of antibodies to these pathogens might
cross react with host TSH receptors on thyroid follicular cells to result in
hyperthyroidism.
Emotional stress is often dismissed as etiologically important. However, more than
once have we seen a temporal relationship between the onset of hyperthyroidism and
a major life event such as the death of a

Women In Ancient Greek Mythology
Ancient Greek mythology is filled with allusions to powerful men who overcame
kingdoms, fought for their personal liberty and did not hesitate to annihilate.
However, there are also numerous powerful and strong women who became
recognized for their ruthlessness and devious ways. These women are fierce, powerful
characters, however, simultaneously, appealing women. They are the most powerful
and detrimental women of ancient Greek mythology. The femme fatales. Medeas

usually associated to one who has a lower status. The contrasting types of women
during the Golden Age varied from subaltern women to citizen women. Subaltern
women were the property of the household and took care of the children, whilst
citizen women owned the slaves and ran the households. The contrasting label is

Conformity And Cult Development
Cult development is fascinating phenomenon that occurs all around the world. Their
membership growth is a complex interaction facilitated by conformity and
manipulation. Cult membership can have a major impact on those who are involved.
Leaving a cult can cause much distress for both the ex member and their family. It is
important to understand cultaffiliation factors and the development of their
membership in order to provide proper therapeutic intervention for those who leave
cults.
Cults tend to appeal to individuals who have some sort of vulnerability that can be
exploited. A study done by Egan Hunter (1998) demonstrated that fact in adolescents.

better empathetic view of clients who are involved with a cult. It is critical that ex

further cult affiliation. Members in cults experience extreme isolation from the
outside world and are typically cut off from their family. Family involvement is an
important component to therapeutic intervention with former cult members. Contact

The Blessed Lodovica Albertoni ( Fig )
The definition of artworks and the labelling of them as objects of a distinguished
style of their time can be helpful to maintain an organised view of the history of art.
However, defining a piece, or an artist, as belonging uniquely to a certain style
reduce the possibilities of a different reading of them. To illustrate this point, I will
comment the Blessed Lodovica Albertoni (fig.1), a sculpture of the 17th Century by
Gian Lorenzo Bernini, focusing on the approach of Rudolf Wittkower (1901 71) in
his book Gian Lorenzo Bernini: the sculptor of the Roman baroque. Although the
addition of the subtitle clearly defines the sculpture as part of the Italian baroque, it is
interesting how at the same time Wittkower includes a view on Bernini s... Show

As he comments the importance of the diagonal in his previous works, this
sculpture is described as angular in contrast with the modelling of the figure. The
spirituality of the Blessed is emphasised by the violent movement of the fold of the
mantles. Wittkower adds to the picture an inclination towards the classical linearity,
as Bernini s work did from the 1660s. He compares it with other artists from the
same period, who tended to serene their designs towards the end of their lives.
However, he emphasises on his interpretation of the sculpture as it portraits the
emotional and dramatic effect that is considered typical of the baroque .
Accompanying the short mention of the sculpture, Wittkower includes a comment in
the catalogue of images. First, the catalogue gives context to the figure and relates
it to others of Bernini s works at the time. Supposedly commissioned by Cardinal
Paluzzo degli Albertoni, sketches proves the beginning of the work in 1671 . Bernini
sculpted the figure by himself. His other commissions made him finish the sculpture
in 1674. Although it is surprising the artist did not receive remuneration for the
piece, it is known he worked for free for the Altieri family in order to avoid publicity
on behalf of his brother s past criminal offence . Secondly, Wittkower comments the
relationship of the sculpture and the painting, Gaulli s Virgin and Child

Social Darwinism
From the birth of America to the modern day, people have been vigorously searching
for a reasonable justification of racism. In the early eighteenth century, the common
theory was that the Bible had commanded that the offspring of Ham be rightly
punished, or enslaved. After the outlawing of slavery, people turned to a new theory
that had already been gaining popularity in the United Kingdom: Social Darwinism
(Jinali). Social Darwinism was the theory that everyone was born into a specific
social class, and that if they tried to somehow raise their status, whether it be through
marriage or money, they would ultimately return to their original spot. Many leading
authors of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, when Social... Show more

At the time of publication, writers were just ending their foray into naturalism, and
critics were angered that Norris book brought back all that they had hoped was
behind them. Norris was instantly admonished and critics called his book a
monotony of brutality from beginning to end (Marchand 301). One critic, John D.
Barry, wrote that McTeague was grossness for the sake of grossness (Marchand

hideousness of everyday life, critics considered his novel a story with no moral,
esthetical or artistic reason for being and said that no one would be better for reading
it (Marchand 301). Although today Norris is considered the pinnacle of naturalism in
America, he published his novel at a time when the American public was not
interested in naturalism, resulting in his book being negatively received. However,
today, there has been a return to naturalism, and with it, a renewed interest in Norris
McTeague. While the old critics considered his descriptions of the everyday mundane,
critics today saw that beneath the surface of our placid, everyday lives there is
turbulence, that the romance of the extraordinary is not limited to the distant in time

Why Was Mary Queen Of Scots Executed
Mary Queen of Scots was executed on the 8th February 1587 after she was
implicated in the Babington Plot against Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth of England did
not give her explicit consent to the execution of Mary, however, Elizabeth did sign
the death warrant. The execution of a sister monarch at the hands of Elizabeth I was
a significant event because it had consequences that affected not only England but
mainland Europe as well. The major cause of the execution was the threat that Mary
posed to Elizabeth s rule. Mary was of Tudor decent on both her mothers and fathers
side, therefore she was a legitimate Catholic heir to the throne of England. The
execution of Mary resulted diminished Catholic sympathy, war with Spain, and James

James VI formed a new Stuart dynasty that replaced the Tudor rule. His rule as the
king of England and Scotland affected the lives of millions of people all over
Europe. Because of this, English Catholics becoming even more marginalized due
to the Protestant King. Mary s death also had an impact on the diplomatic
relationship between England and Spain. The unrest with Spain escalated into full
scale conflict, largely instigated by Mary s execution, which angered king Phillip
II of Spain. The English/Spanish war was lengthy and expensive, lasting through
the remainder of Elizabeth s rule, not ending until 1604, one year after Elizabeth
died. The war affected thousands of English and Spanish people and was a huge
drain on the English crown s military and financial resources. Many of the financial
problems that James I suffered from were caused by the debts from this war. Mary
Queen of Scots execution was significant as it affected the sociopolitical and religious

The Defense Budget Should Increase Military Spending
To spend or not to spend, that is the question. America is torn, not sure whether it
should increase military spending or if it should considerably slash the budget.
Advocates for a higher defense budget claim more spending will lead to a stronger,
better trained military, which would in turn help secure our status as the superlative
militarypower of the world. However, supporters of the defense budget cuts argue
for a reduction in troop size, which they believe would save the country billions and
allow the nation to focus those savings on next generation technology for protection.
This argument has raged for decades with no solution in sight. Maybe we have been
approaching this problem all wrong. Perhaps, instead of the shortsighted approach of
either raise or lower the budget, we try a smarter, more efficient method of spending
to ensure every dollar of our annual military budgetpositively impacts our national
defense. The debate whether to raise or lower the defense budget has plagued this
nation for generations with many sides expressing their viewpoints on the matter.
Though there are no doubt countless points of views, two main camps come to the
forefront: either rise or lower the budget. These two opposing camps are often broad
enough to encompass most other ideas on the debate whether for or against it,
leaving outliers little room at the proverbial table in which to make their case.
Proponents for a fiscal increase range far and wide with perhaps the most

A Christmas Carol Compare And Contrast
A Christmas Carol(Compare and Contrast Essay) A Christmas Carol is about a
selfish and greedy man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who goes on a life changing
journey given to him by his late best friend, Jacob Marley.A Christmas Carol had
more similarities than differences when it comes to comparing and contrasting the
drama and the movie, but they both had the same idea. Both are about a man who
repels anyone he walks past with only a single glance, but instead of him growing to
be more of a hated man than he already is, he experiences three spirits that take him
through his life and show him what the true meaning of Christmasreally is and that if
he doesn t change his attitude, he will never get another opportunity to change the
way he lives(Dickens,11)(Dickens,19)(Dickens,27). Scrooge could have stayed the
way he was before, old and alone,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scrooge hated everything, which is why he was such a loathsome person to be
around. But he soon turned his life around and began to spread happiness to
everyone after he returns from a life changing journey through what he has become
as a person(Dickens,31 33). Although the movie and the drama were very much
alike, there were still some aspects of the movie when I was in suspense and didn t
know what was going to happen because there were still parts of the movie that
didn t follow exactly what was in the drama, which is why is really like this movie
and how it was put together. Ebenezer Scrooge will die a happy man with friends and
family that will mourn his death instead of dying a stingy, old man who was
always alone. This version of the story was one of the best ones I have ever heard
or seen because it followed the drama, but kept me in suspense. I didn t feel that the
director was repeating the same thing over and over again to fill the empty spaces,
but instead, he was doing something useful for the story by adding minor details to
enhance the feel of the story and its
The Archetypal Hero In The Capture By Kathryn Lasky
As a young owlet, Soren would never have imagined that he would be stolen and
set on a treacherous journey to escape. Nor would he think about using this as an
advantage to save other young owlets. In The Capture by Kathryn Lasky, Soren is
put through many hardships but overcomes them to prove he is a true legend and
hero. Soren from The Capture is a prime example of an archetypal hero based on
his many admirable qualities, success on his epic quest, and ability to gain trust and
get help from others. Soren is an admirable character with many astonishing
qualities. His love and compassion toward his friends and family prove this. On

Soren s journey to get back to his family was treacherous and risky. However,
nothing that came in his way sabotaged him from completing his epic quest to
escape St. Aggies. Evil owls like Skench, Spoorn, Jutt, and Jatt try sabotaging his
plans throughout his time in St. Aggies. None of this stopped him because he still
escaped St. Aggies with his friend Gylfie in the end. On page 162, Just as they
reached the stone rim, they felt a curl of warm air. And it was as if vast and gentle
wings had reached out of the night, and swept them up into the sky. They did not
look back. This section of the book proves Soren s dedication as he flies out of St.
Aggies. He does not look back at the place that brought him terror because it brings
up bad memories. He is also looking at his future when he sees the sky, knowing his
future consists of being an owl, not being in St. Aggies. Soren knows that the
guardians of Ga hoole can take down St. Aggies, so he makes it another quest of
his to get to them. This proves that he not only wants to escape, but he wants to
take down the cause of the problem to save future and current owlets abducted by
St. Aggies. Soren works as hard as possible in this book to make sure that he can
save himself and other owls that are affected by St. Aggies. He did this by going on
an epic quest to escape the dictatorship of St. Aggies and find out how to stop them.
Soren is an incredibly easy going owl in this story. Constantly
The Titanic And The Sinking Of The Titanic
The Titanic If you are from the U.S then you have probably ran across the movie
The Titanic . One of the most dynamic and thrilling movies that involves a romantic
disaster of two passengers, featuring leonardo dicaprio and kate winslet as Jack
Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater. The main plot of the story portrays jack and
rose meeting each other in the Titanic aka the ship of dreams and falling madly in
love with each other. Unfortunately the ship hits a iceberg and sinks to sea leaving
many passengers horrified and jack dying to save Rose. After summarizing the
story of the movie, many people who have watched it only focus and sympathize
for the romantic disaster of the main characters. Although the movie gives a well
depiction of the sinking of the titanic, the movie does not show the full evaluation
of what happened in the Titanic and also the aftermath of the Titanic. This essay
focuses on the nautical/maritime archaeology of the sinking of the Titanic. The
Titanic was built around 1911 and 1912. The ship was constructed with thousands
of one inch thick steel and two million steel and iron rivets that were equipped with
the latest technology during the time. The Titanic was designed to be the largest
ship afloat. Multiple engineers who helped design the ship believed it would be
unsinkable, because of the use of hard steel and 16 watertight compartments in case
of a leaking emergency. On 2:20am on April 15, 1912 the ship was sailing too fast
for the icy conditions and
Essay about The Controversy Over Music Censorship
The Controversy Over Music Censorship
Censorship in music is a very controversial subject in today s society. What is
considered a form of artistic expression to some is also considered vulgar and
inappropriate to others. But who ultimately gets to decide what is considered vulgar
and what is not? Who decides who hears what in the music industry? The RIAA is
responsible for applying the Parental Advisory stamp on every album that is released
in the United States. The FCC is responsible for making sure that no vulgarities or
controversial comments are aired on radio or television. But why is some content
edited and other content not? I will try and explain these questions in our article.
What decides whether or not the Parental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6) Any depiction of sex, drug abuse, or violence
7) These guidelines refer to any single track albums as well as full albums. (Rosen, H
October 25 2004)
We should also keep in mind that having the Parental Advisory label on an album is
not the Kiss of Death. Anyone of any age can still purchase the music, they just need
to be aware of the content that is on it, and that it may offend them. It is reported
that most record stores inventory only carries less than half of one percent of albums
that sport the Parental Advisory sticker. Also, extensive research done on a young
group of teenagers shows that the sticker does not influence them to buy the album
more. They are more attracted to music and rhythms than they are to the lyrics.
(Rosen, H October 25 2004)
So what does the FCC do? The FCC is responsible for making sure that the bad
content is edited out of every song that hits the radio or television. The Parental
Advisory sticker does not mean the content has to be erased, just that it is there and
you need to be aware of it. But when that song is played on radio or television, it
needs to be edited out. They will not disrupt the flow of the song, but when that
offensive lyric comes up, it needs to be blanked out. This also includes music videos
and their visual content. There can not be offensive images. Eminem is an example
of an artist who is constantly pushing the limits of both the FCC and the RIAA.

What Do Race And Ethnicity, Social Class And
Commercialism...
To what extent do race ethnicity, social class and commercialism influence
participation in sport, and in what ways?
Intro
Anglo Saxon culture is in many ways obsessed with sport and, from the late
eighteenth through to the nineteenth centuries, produced many of the formalized
sports now adopted world wide and played according to the standard rules (Holt,
1989). In the last century following a brief period of participation, black sportsmen
were barred participating alongside whites e.g. Baseball in the early 1860s which
led to black players resorting to create their own teams and leagues. Black
sportsmen have since World War II made a remarkable impact in baseball,
basketball, athletics, American football and boxing but not so much in golf and
tennis (Coakley 1978, Edwards, 1973). A reason being that according to the 2012
U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey the poverty rate for African
Americans is 28% compared to 15% for all races which shows some races are more
inclined to be part of a certain social class. Certain sports tend to be linked with
middle and upper classes lifestyle both in their recruitment and their supporters.
Class and Race/Ethnic Minorities
There is an indissoluble link between social class, ethnicity and sports. Football in
Britain and Brazil, baseball and basketball in America are among sports which
continue to recruit players almost exclusively from the blue collar sector of the
population. Working class men view a career in professional
Dante’s, The Divine Comedy
In Dante s, The Divine Comedy, Virgil leads Dante through the Inferno, where
Dante undergoes changes in his compassion. I am going to argue that Dante
expresses less compassion during his journey when Virgil leads him through the
Inferno. This essay will prove how Dante shows more feelings at the beginning of
the Inferno compared to the end of the Inferno. Dante is being a coward by
thinking he is unable to make his journey: I d be too slow had I obeyed by now.

Near the end of the Inferno Dante is barely showing any emotions: I woke before
the day ahead had come, and heard my sons (my little ones were there) cry in their
sleep and call out for some food. How hard you are if, thinking what my heart
foretold, you do not feel the pain of it. Whatever will you weep for, if not that? By
now they all had woken up. The time was due when, as routine, our food was
brought, Yet each was doubt, thinking of their dream. Listening, I heard the door
below locked shut, then nailed in place against that dreadful tower, I looked in
their dear faces, spoke no word. I did not weep. Inward, I turned to stone. They
wept. And then my boy Anselmo spoke: What are you staring at? Father, what s
wrong? And so I held my tears in check and gave no answer all that day, nor all the
night that followed on, until another sun came up. (Dante, Inferno, 33: 37 54)
Dante woke up before the day had started with his sons crying in their sleep for
food. He didn t really care that his sons were hungry and he didn t understand what
people weep for besides weeping for food because they are hungry. They received
their food but then their door was nailed

Your healthcare provider will perform the appropriate testing and examinations to

current treatment for infections are administration of antibiotics. According to an
article posted by the (MayoClinic,2014) the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention recommends the following medications for treatment; an antibiotic
cerfriaxone (Rocephin) which is administered by injection,in combination with either
azithromycin (Zithromax,Zmax) or doxycycline (Monodox, Oracea,Vibramycin) both
antibiotics are taken orally. Further research has discovered that when using both oral
gemifloxacin and the injection gentamicin is highly affective into treating gonorrhea.
Infection should be taken serious for both partners; although there may be no present
symptoms, treatment should still be administered. Newborns that are infected should
be treated immediately; medication is placed in their eyes after birth to prevent any
type of infection entering into babies eyes. Babies are also treated with antibiotics. In
conclusion, Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a bacterium that can rapidly spread by any
sexual contact. Gonorrhoeae can be highly dangerous if left untreated, may cause
infections and in some cases infertility among both females and males. It s

Anti-Christian Themes In Bridge To Terabithia By

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson has been one of the most challenged
books in recent history. Partially based on a true story, Bridge to Terabithia tells the
story of a friendship between a young girl, Leslie, and boy, Jesse (Jess for short), and
their adventures in a land they call Terabithia. At the end, the girl dies. Typically read
between 4th and 6th grade, this book helps to teach children about death and loss;
and it helps many understand such difficult topics before being faced with them in
reality. Yet, people continue to challenge it on the bases of language, witchcraft,
violence, and anti Christian themes. These challenges are unwarranted and
unnecessary. Despite being challenged on numerous occasions due to complaints of
witchcraft, language, violence, and anti Christian themes, Bridge to Terabithia by

Gibbs Bridge Myths
Introduction:
Gibbs Bridge is nothing more than a small, slightly spooky bridge in the middle of
nowhere. Yet stories are spread stating that it is haunted. Stories about Gibbs
Bridge have been making their way around the city of Sylvania for years, being
passed down as a local legend of sorts. At first glance, this small bridge may seem
inconspicuous but with some digging, it is revealed that this bridge has many
stories attached to it. The bridge itself was built in 1923, and is located on Gibbs Road
in Sylvania, Ohio not too far from the Michigan border. A picture of where exactly
the bridge is located can be found in appendix A. Aside from the year it was built,
not much else is known about the bridge yet if the legends are consulted ... Show

According to the story, there was a nasty car accident that occurred on the bridge
during that time in which some local students were killed. Now it is said that those
who lost their lives in that horrific crash haunt the bridge, if you visit the bridge at
night the sounds of screeching tires, breaking glass, and oddly enough laughter
can be heard. Also, dark, shadowy figures are said to chase people off the bridge if
they walk across it. Another quite popular legend that is often told is called
Xanadu. This story claims that a young man was decapitated by two of his friends
who attempted to play a prank on him. The young man s friends strung fishing line
across the bridge and waited for the man on the motorcycle to cross. His body
ended up crossing the bridge, but his head did not. He was decapitated by the
fishing line and is now said to haunt the bridge. In keeping with the legend if the
participant goes to the bridge at night and flashes their headlights three times a
motorcycle headlight will appear out of nowhere as well as the sounds of a
motorcycle followed by a man screaming. Many other stories are told about the
bridge, including; a girl hanging herself due to an unrequited love, a young girl
getting hit by a car, an angry farmer chasing people off the bridge with his truck or
shooting at them, and like any good haunted location the bridge is a popular site

The dramatic importance of the boxing scene between Eddie and Roldolpho
The story, A View from the Bridge is set in America and it talks about a
longshoreman, Eddie. He has kindly let two of his relatives who are illegal
immigrants from Italy stay in his house. The boxing scene in Act 1, episode 5 of the
play is of dramatic importance as it reveals the tension between Eddie and Rodolpho,
one of the illegal immigrants. The scene highlights the different views and
relationship of the two women towards Eddie as he is starting to resemble a tragic
hero and is on his path of self destruction and downfall. It also emphasizes the
growing importance of Marco s role which eventually leads to the climax at the
beginning of Act 1.

Catherine might have also done that on purpose so she could annoy Eddie because
of what he has done to Rodolpho. From here we can see that Catherine s view
towards Eddie is deteriorating as she acts more rebellious around him while Beatrice

The end of Act 1 closely resembles a Greek Tragedy. In the boxing scene, Eddie
begins to make bold moves and does things that are out of the ordinary. Feints with
his left hand and lands with his right . He starts making mistakes without realizing
it as he decides to physically hurt Rodolpho by punching him. This is just the
beginning of his path towards self destruction as he makes his fatal flaw later on in
the play. The other characters in the play are all slowly turning against him.
Catherine decides to be rebellious in front of Eddie, You wanna dance, Rodolpho?
Marco challenges Eddie by asking him, Can you lift this chair? Beatrice criticizes
Eddie for being too overprotective and his unnatural affection towards Catherine,
Well then, be an uncle then. Rodolpho tries to reason with Eddie, I have respect for
her, Eddie. All right, sure. But I can t stay in the house all the time, Eddie.

Capacity and Process Technology Strategy Advice for Bonkers Chocolate Factory:
A central aspect of the dynamic problem facing a business in an evolving and

purpose of this report is to provide strategic advice for the CEO of Bonkers
Chocolate Factory (BCF), the U.S division of a multi national candy company
operating in the highly competitive chocolate products market. In late 2001, the main

Due to the perishable nature and shelf life quality (performance objective) restrictions
of the products, a smoothing strategy is ruled out when considering timing capacity
change in combination with either new or conventional conching technology options.
Further analysis of other capacity or process technology factors will help to
determine whether a capacity leading or lagging strategy is the most effective option
for BCF.
Even when the demand for an operations products can be reasonably well forecast,
the inherent uncertainty in all estimates of future demand may inhibit the business
from investing capital to meet the most likely level of demand. Contrastingly, this
principle can be linked to the concept of economies of scale. For BCF the addition
of one unit of capacity i.e. from the extra capacity provided by the conventional
technology option, the total fixed costs per unit of potential production output will
decrease. For the new technology option, the addition of one unit of capacity will
increase unit costs a diseconomy of scale. Initially, this claim is based on the capital
cost of implementing the new technology option, as well as diseconomies of over
using capacity having the effect of increasing unit costs above a certain level of
output. As a result, more operations activities

The Leather Boot As Evidence Against God Erlang s

The supernatural element of the sorcery in the story of The Leather Boot as
Evidence against the God Erlang s Impostor makes the story more appealing to me.
As a comparison, in the story The Fan Tower Restaurant as Witness to the Love of

after she was died is somehow less interesting. When reading the God Erlang s

Analyzing Edgar Allen Poe s Annabel Lee
Annabel Lee
There was a couple that were perfect together, but something happened. Edgar Allen
Poe wrote a story called Annabel Lee which is about a couple that loved each
other, but the wife went away. The narrator talks about his feelings. Poe uses
hyperboles, allusions, and personifications to show passing does not separate true
love.
In Annabel Lee the author references people, and places that help the main idea
and thesis. The narrator talked about the Bible when he said The angels, not half so
happy in heaven... supports the main idea. It supports it because it is saying the
angels are not as happy and he is insinuating the angels could be jealous of them
which is why his wife passed away. The narrator talks about the bible many times.
He does it here when he says And neither the angels in Heaven above... . He talks
about the angels again which means he is definitely blaming the angels for what

Angelo In Measure For Measure Act 3 Scene 1
In Act 3, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Measure for Measure Isabella has just been to
see Angelo about pardoning her brother Claudio, who has been arrested for
fornication, and Angelo says he will only pardon Claudio if Isabella, who is a nun,
sleeps with him. Isabella has gone to the prison to see Claudio in Act 3, Scene 1 to
tell him that she cannot sleep with Angelo because it is better if Claudio dies for
his sins than Isabella be eternally damned. Isabella lets Claudio know that she isn t
prepared to give in to Angelo and tells him that he should be prepared for death. This
scene is the first time Claudio and Isabella have interacted and it appears to the
audience that Isabella takes the moral high ground when she says Lest thou a feverous
Bullying Is The Main Cause Of Suicide
Many may argue that bullying is not directly correlated with the amount of increase
in suicide. They say that depression is the main cause that an individual will commit
suicide. Statistics claim that, Over 50 percent of all people who die by suicide
suffer from major depression (The Over Night). Depression is a contributor to suicide
, but teens can experience depression from bullying. Bullying does in fact cause
depression, Researchers have also discovered a strong link between bullying and
depression... depression is closely related with bullying (No Bully). In this article, it
suggests that bullying greatly impacts the victim to have depression. Depression can
cause the victim to have a low self esteem, anxiety, or miss school because
Example Of Sojourner Truth Speech
Sojourner Truth is a resonant name in both the women s and civil rights movements.
As an African American woman, Sojourner Truth existed in the intersection of two
largely oppressed groups and went on to become a prominent abolitionist and
women s rights activist in a transformative period for pre Civil war America. Truth
is most well known for the powerful speech she delivered at the 1851 Women s
Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio. Her speech was a clever, compelling, and bold
performance that gives us insight into perspectives of the women, especially Africa
American Women, of this era. Analyzing her speech transports us into the world of
abolitionist and feminist movements and provides a frightening yet affirming
example of how similar these thoughts can be to present day movements.
Sojourner s importance lays in the diverse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take for example, the case of Barack Obama, former President of the United States.
There existed a time when African Americans had no place in democratic society,
they were not even included in calculation of state populations. Fast forwarding from
18th century, it is dramatic that, not only, African Americans are included in the
democratic process but also that the United States voted into office an African
American President. In a similar light, we can look at the past presidential election
to see how female roles have expanded since the 18th century. Although she was
not elected, Hillary Clinton was the first women to ever run for president.
Compared to 18th century America, not only have women gained the right to vote,
but they have also greatly expanded their roles from homemakers to become
politicians, legislators, professors, doctors and all sorts of other professions. If we
went back in time to tell the people of Akron, Ohio in 1851 they would hardly
believe such a radical
This I Believe Essay
Life is all about change. It s pretty obvious to most of us that the corollary states
that if you stop changing, you are dead. Having said that it makes the job of
describing my beliefs difficult. After all, in a year I may see things very differently.
When I look back at the things I have believed it is clear that many have withered
away, seemingly to make room for the growth of new ideas.
Perhaps this should discourage me from trying to form a personal philosophy but I
can t be convinced that the alternative is very attractive. How could I face each day
without knowing what I value and what I repudiate, both within myself and in the
world at large.
Can you see, as I do, that one of the most permanent beliefs we should all share ...

It s just a pity it sounds so serious.
Take a look at the people that you admire. Isn t it true to say that they clearly
understand who they are and what they stand for? Success doesn t always equate
to admiration, at least in my experience. I take great delight in a friend from my
university days whose only notable achievement is to have a loving marriage and
be raising three wonderful children. A past workmate of mine who was very
successful and set to become even more so, made my list when she decided her job
didn t match her soul and left to become a Nun. There are heroes all around us, so be
on the lookout.
As the child of a loving and secure family environment, the only danger I faced was
the risk of growing into a bland adult. I ve got nothing against mashed potato but if
given the choice I will opt for Cajun style crawdads every time. Just as a good chef
knows it is the unique favours that define a dish, it is equally true that we should
cultivate the special attributes that define ourselves.
At this point a canny reader may be thinking that I am advocating a culture of
freaks; far from it. What could be more frustrating than watching a profound idea
watered down and clouded by a mob of people who chase the image by affecting its
surface traits. Let s break it down further. Finding the core of who you are and
encouraging it to blossom is not the same as dyeing your hair
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Solid Waste
2. METHODS
The main technological choices available for processing/ treatment and disposal of
solid waste are composting, vermicomposting, anaerobic digestion/ biomethanation,
incineration, gasification and pyrolysis, plasma pyrolysis, production of Refuse
Derived Fuel (RDF), also called as pelletization and sanitary landfilling/landfill gas
recovery. Not all technologies are equally good. Each one of them has benefits and
disadvantages.
2.1 COMPOSTING :
Composting is a technology known in India since times immemorial. Composting is
the decomposition of organic matter by microorganism in warm, moist, aerobic and
anaerobic environment. Farmers have been using compost made out of cow dung and
other agro waste. The compost made out of urban heterogeneous waste is found to
be of higher nutrient value as compared to the compost made out of cow dung and
agro waste. Composting of Solid Waste is, therefore, the most simple and cost
effective technology for treating the organic fraction of solid waste. Full scale
commercially viable composting technology is already demonstrated in India and is
in use in several cities and towns. Its application to farm land, tea gardens, fruit
orchards or its use as soil conditioner in parks, gardens, agricultural lands, etc., is
however, limited on account of poor promoting.
Main benefits of composting include improvement in soil texture and augmenting of
micronutrient deficiencies. It also increases moisture holding capacity of the soil and

Definition Of Essays

  • 1. Definition Of Essays Crafting an essay on the subject of "Definition of Essays" is a task that may appear deceptively straightforward at first glance, yet delving into the intricacies of the topic reveals a complexity that demands thoughtful consideration. The challenge lies not only in presenting a concise and clear definition but also in navigating the nuanced landscape of literary and academic discourse. To begin with, the term "essay" itself has evolved over centuries, from the French word "essayer," meaning to attempt or try. Essays are not merely compositions but rather a form of expression that requires a delicate balance between creativity and structured analysis. One must grapple with the challenge of defining a genre that encompasses a broad spectrum of styles, from the personal and reflective to the analytical and argumentative. The difficulty intensifies when attempting to encapsulate the essence of essays within the confines of a single piece. It involves dissecting the diverse array of essay types—narrative, descriptive, expository, persuasive, and more—and articulating their distinctive features. Juggling between these different styles while maintaining coherence can be akin to navigating a literary maze. Moreover, the challenge extends beyond the theoretical aspect of the definition. An effective essay on the definition of essays must transcend mere description and engage the reader intellectually. This entails exploring the historical evolution of the essay, tracing its roots in classical literature, and examining how it has morphed into a multifaceted literary form that reflects the zeitgeist of each era. The difficulty intensifies as one navigates through the vast sea of scholarly opinions and critical perspectives on the subject. It demands not only a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical frameworks but also the ability to synthesize information coherently. Balancing academic rigor with accessibility is a tightrope walk that requires a nuanced approach to language and argumentation. In conclusion, crafting an essay on the "Definition of Essays" is a challenging endeavor that necessitates a deep understanding of the subject matter, a keen awareness of the nuances within the literary landscape, and a deft touch in presenting complex ideas with clarity. It is an intellectual journey that requires the writer to grapple with the ever-evolving nature of the essay, from its historical roots to its contemporary manifestations. For those seeking assistance with essays or similar tasks, a variety of resources are available, including online platforms like HelpWriting.net, where expertly crafted essays and more can be ordered to ease the burden of academic writing. • 2. Indus River Valley Research Paper The Indus River Valley is the best civilization out of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and of course the Indus River Valley. I think this and believe this for many reasons. One reason is that the Indus River Valley created a sewer system. Also, they build a big grain bin that held all of their grain. There are some other things that the Indus River Valley created. The Indus River Valley created a sewer system. They were the first civilizationto have a system like this. This helped keep their city a lot cleaner than it was without one. It really helped because their system was underground. This is one of the reasons I think the Indus River Valley is the best. I also think the Indus River Valley is the most outstanding because they had a huge grain
  • 3. Benefits Of Using Ppps Delivery Method 1.0Description of the Problem Each delivery method in the construction industry has some challenges that need to be considered to get the project done on time without any issue. Indeed, payment mechanisms play a major role in PPPs contracts because they allocate the risks between the public and the private parties. Therefore, they are essential because they reflect both of the levels of service required as well as the most cost effective transfer of risk to the private entity . Since the PPPs are used to develop public facilities , such as hospitals, roads, and defense facilities, we have to pay more attention to the payment mechanisms and the risks that are associated with these types of project. The main reason for that is they can significantly affect the outcomes of the PPPs because they can influence the incentives of the public and private entities to deliver the facility that must satisfy the users requirements and needs . There is a few concerns come up when using PPPs delivery method. One of the most important concerns is the effectiveness of the payment mechanisms to achieve the government s objectives in a particular project. Moreover, it is a fact that each payment mechanism has a unique advantage and disadvantage. Therefore, the need to develop and investigate new payment mechanisms has been raised to have a payment mechanism that has the most of the available advantages in the other payment mechanisms. 2.0Research Questions or Hypothesis Addressed in
  • 4. The Negative Effects Of Alcohol On The Human Body Effects of Alcohol on the Human Body Many teenagers and adults drink alcohol. Often drinking makes a person feel relaxed, confident, happy and sociable. However, would these good feelings be enough, if that person knew the negative effects alcohol has on the human body? Alcohol has immediate negative effects, but also causes long term damage, and can even cause cancer. I believe if everyone had a better understanding of what alcohol does to the human body, there might be a decrease in alcohol consumption. It is important to understand the biology behind how the body digests alcohol; the physical impairments caused by alcohol; the possible consequences of those impairments; and the long term damage that alcohol can do to the body. When the body digests alcohol, there are effects on almost every tissue and organ in the body. According to www.quitalcohol.com, when alcohol is consumed, about one third of it absorbs immediately into the blood through the stomach lining. The remainder absorbs more slowly into the blood, through the small intestine. Once in the bloodstream, alcohol diffuses into almost every biological tissue in the body. Consuming alcohol causes the blood alcohol level to increase. The speed that a person s blood alcohol level increases and the effect it has depends on a lot of factors, including weight, age, gender, body composition, general health and the presence of other drugs or medications. Regardless, any amount of alcohol in the body will have

  • 6. Wb Yeats As A Dynamic Poet William Butler Yeats is one of the most renowned Anglo Irish poets and a winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923. As a representative symbolist poet his primary focus was to place his love for his origins, literature, philosophy and history in his art. The world that he presents in his works is a mixture of natural, human and cultural values. There is constant renewal, experimentation and utter dedication to the craft of poetry in his works. Of all the poets in our course, WB Yeats is easily our favorite. His poetry has a dynamic quality. Several aspects of his poetry that appeal the most to us are the political or polemical dimension to his work, his use of nature as a theme and his reflection on old age, body and the soul and finally his discussion on mysticism and reincarnation of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important aims of poetry is to give the reader aesthetic pleasure. But what is more important is that it should present reality truthfully and defend human values artistically. It should envision a society where people can live a better life. Yeats did just that. The greatness of his poetry lies in the fact that it interprets the contemporary political events within the framework of a philosophical system. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the petty politics of their class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of philosophy. Yeats too rose above the ephemerality of politics and made an attempt to achieve permanence in poetry by following the philosophical system. Being from an Anglo Irish family, he could have easily gone to the English side but what he chose was to represent the repressed Irish people. • 7. Short Summary Of Pyotr Tchaikovsky Pyotr Tchaikovsky was one of the most loved composers in Russia. On May 7, 1840, in Votkinsk in the Vyatka region of Russia, Tchaikovsky was born to a middle class family and was the second son of Lieutenant Colonel Ilya Petrovich Tchaikovsky, chief mine inspector of the Kamsko Votkinsk mines and metallurgical. Not much is said about Tchaikovsky mother, but we do know that she, Alexandra Andreyevna, was the second wife out of three, had an ear for music and played the piano, she was able to speak two languages: French and German. The two had six children together and one child from his previous marriage. At age four, Tchaikovsky composed his first piece Our Mama in Petersburg , his father was impressed by the small composition, but thought it was a phase. In 1844, the education of the young Tchaikovsky and his siblings was put in the hands of Fanny DГјrbach, a twenty two year old French Governess. She noticed that young Pyotr Tchaikovsky had different qualities from his brothers and sisters, he did not care about his appearance, but he was very affectionate and had a big heart. Fanny DГјrbach claimed that young Tchaikovsky would start tapping on the window pane, playing a tune he that would be trapped in his head, she considered his obsession with music unhealthy. (Pg. 13. However Graves disease is named after the Irish physician who described several cases in London Medical Journal in 1835. Graves disease is also known as Parry s disease. In Europe, the disease is known as Basedow s disease. It is the most common cause of thyrotoxicosis (the morbid condition due to over activity of the thyroid gland). Indeed one or two never appear, and moreover, the three may run ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the evidence that Graves disease is autoimmune in origin is quite convincing. Hyperthyroidism and goiter are immunologically mediated. It results from the production of auto antibodies directed against the TSH ( thyroid stimulating hormone) receptors on the thyroid follicular cells or closely related cell membrane domains. Auto antibodies are of two types: TSI ( thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins) or TSH receptor antibodies ( TRAb) which mimic the action of TSH and thereby inducing the hypersecretion of thyroid hormones. TGI ( thyroid growth stimulating immunoglobulins) which initiates the growth of thyroid cells. The question is what initiates these autoimmune reactions? The answer is not clear but genetic, immune and environmental considerations are important. In genetically predisposed individuals, infection with viruses or bacteria may serve as a trigger. Certain strains of E. coli and Yersinia enterocolitica possess cell membrane TSH receptors. The production of antibodies to these pathogens might cross react with host TSH receptors on thyroid follicular cells to result in hyperthyroidism. Emotional stress is often dismissed as etiologically important. However, more than once have we seen a temporal relationship between the onset of hyperthyroidism and a major life event such as the death of a

The Blessed Lodovica Albertoni ( Fig ) The definition of artworks and the labelling of them as objects of a distinguished style of their time can be helpful to maintain an organised view of the history of art. However, defining a piece, or an artist, as belonging uniquely to a certain style reduce the possibilities of a different reading of them. To illustrate this point, I will comment the Blessed Lodovica Albertoni (fig.1), a sculpture of the 17th Century by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, focusing on the approach of Rudolf Wittkower (1901 71) in his book Gian Lorenzo Bernini: the sculptor of the Roman baroque. Although the addition of the subtitle clearly defines the sculpture as part of the Italian baroque, it is interesting how at the same time Wittkower includes a view on Bernini s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As he comments the importance of the diagonal in his previous works, this sculpture is described as angular in contrast with the modelling of the figure. The spirituality of the Blessed is emphasised by the violent movement of the fold of the mantles. Wittkower adds to the picture an inclination towards the classical linearity, as Bernini s work did from the 1660s. He compares it with other artists from the same period, who tended to serene their designs towards the end of their lives. However, he emphasises on his interpretation of the sculpture as it portraits the emotional and dramatic effect that is considered typical of the baroque . Accompanying the short mention of the sculpture, Wittkower includes a comment in the catalogue of images. First, the catalogue gives context to the figure and relates it to others of Bernini s works at the time. Supposedly commissioned by Cardinal Paluzzo degli Albertoni, sketches proves the beginning of the work in 1671 . Bernini sculpted the figure by himself. His other commissions made him finish the sculpture in 1674. Although it is surprising the artist did not receive remuneration for the piece, it is known he worked for free for the Altieri family in order to avoid publicity on behalf of his brother s past criminal offence . Secondly, Wittkower comments the relationship of the sculpture and the painting, Gaulli s Virgin and Child

In the early eighteenth century, the common theory was that the Bible had commanded that the offspring of Ham be rightly punished, or enslaved. After the outlawing of slavery, people turned to a new theory that had already been gaining popularity in the United Kingdom: Social Darwinism (Jinali). Barry, wrote that McTeague was grossness for the sake of grossness (Marchand 302). Although Norris purposely wrote McTeague to reflect the monotony and hideousness of everyday life, critics considered his novel a story with no moral, esthetical or artistic reason for being and said that no one would be better for reading it (Marchand 301). Although today Norris is considered the pinnacle of naturalism in America, he published his novel at a time when the American public was not interested in naturalism, resulting in his book being negatively received. America is torn, not sure whether it should increase military spending or if it should considerably slash the budget. Advocates for a higher defense budget claim more spending will lead to a stronger, better trained military, which would in turn help secure our status as the superlative militarypower of the world. However, supporters of the defense budget cuts argue for a reduction in troop size, which they believe would save the country billions and allow the nation to focus those savings on next generation technology for protection. This argument has raged for decades with no solution in sight. Maybe we have been approaching this problem all wrong. Perhaps, instead of the shortsighted approach of either raise or lower the budget, we try a smarter, more efficient method of spending to ensure every dollar of our annual military budgetpositively impacts our national defense. The debate whether to raise or lower the defense budget has plagued this nation for generations with many sides expressing their viewpoints on the matter. Though there are no doubt countless points of views, two main camps come to the forefront: either rise or lower the budget. What is considered a form of artistic expression to some is also considered vulgar and inappropriate to others. But who ultimately gets to decide what is considered vulgar and what is not? Who decides who hears what in the music industry? The RIAA is responsible for applying the Parental Advisory stamp on every album that is released in the United States. The FCC is responsible for making sure that no vulgarities or controversial comments are aired on radio or television. But why is some content edited and other content not? I will try and explain these questions in our article. What decides whether or not the Parental ... (Rosen, H October 25 2004) We should also keep in mind that having the Parental Advisory label on an album is not the Kiss of Death. Anyone of any age can still purchase the music, they just need to be aware of the content that is on it, and that it may offend them. It is reported that most record stores inventory only carries less than half of one percent of albums that sport the Parental Advisory sticker. Also, extensive research done on a young group of teenagers shows that the sticker does not influence them to buy the album more. They are more attracted to music and rhythms than they are to the lyrics. (Rosen, H October 25 2004) So what does the FCC do? The FCC is responsible for making sure that the bad content is edited out of every song that hits the radio or television. The Parental Advisory sticker does not mean the content has to be erased, just that it is there and you need to be aware of it. But when that song is played on radio or television, it needs to be edited out. They will not disrupt the flow of the song, but when that offensive lyric comes up, it needs to be blanked out. This also includes music videos and their visual content. There can not be offensive images. Eminem is an example of an artist who is constantly pushing the limits of both the FCC and the RIAA. • 28. What Do Race And Ethnicity, Social Class And Commercialism... To what extent do race ethnicity, social class and commercialism influence participation in sport, and in what ways? Intro Anglo Saxon culture is in many ways obsessed with sport and, from the late eighteenth through to the nineteenth centuries, produced many of the formalized sports now adopted world wide and played according to the standard rules (Holt, 1989). In the last century following a brief period of participation, black sportsmen were barred participating alongside whites e.g. Baseball in the early 1860s which led to black players resorting to create their own teams and leagues. Black sportsmen have since World War II made a remarkable impact in baseball, basketball, athletics, American football and boxing but not so much in golf and tennis (Coakley 1978, Edwards, 1973). A reason being that according to the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey the poverty rate for African Americans is 28% compared to 15% for all races which shows some races are more inclined to be part of a certain social class. Certain sports tend to be linked with middle and upper classes lifestyle both in their recruitment and their supporters. Class and Race/Ethnic Minorities There is an indissoluble link between social class, ethnicity and sports. Football in Britain and Brazil, baseball and basketball in America are among sports which continue to recruit players almost exclusively from the blue collar sector of the population. I am going to argue that Dante expresses less compassion during his journey when Virgil leads him through the Inferno. Dante is being a coward by thinking he is unable to make his journey: I d be too slow had I obeyed by now. You need no more declare to me your will. The time was due when, as routine, our food was brought, Yet each was doubt, thinking of their dream. Listening, I heard the door below locked shut, then nailed in place against that dreadful tower, I looked in their dear faces, spoke no word. I did not weep. Inward, I turned to stone. They wept. And then my boy Anselmo spoke: What are you staring at? Father, what s wrong? And so I held my tears in check and gave no answer all that day, nor all the night that followed on, until another sun came up. Partially based on a true story, Bridge to Terabithia tells the story of a friendship between a young girl, Leslie, and boy, Jesse (Jess for short), and their adventures in a land they call Terabithia. At the end, the girl dies. Typically read between 4th and 6th grade, this book helps to teach children about death and loss; and it helps many understand such difficult topics before being faced with them in reality. Yet, people continue to challenge it on the bases of language, witchcraft, violence, and anti Christian themes. These challenges are unwarranted and unnecessary. Stories about Gibbs Bridge have been making their way around the city of Sylvania for years, being passed down as a local legend of sorts. Also, dark, shadowy figures are said to chase people off the bridge if they walk across it. Another quite popular legend that is often told is called Xanadu. This story claims that a young man was decapitated by two of his friends who attempted to play a prank on him. The young man s friends strung fishing line across the bridge and waited for the man on the motorcycle to cross. His body ended up crossing the bridge, but his head did not. He was decapitated by the fishing line and is now said to haunt the bridge. Even when the demand for an operations products can be reasonably well forecast, the inherent uncertainty in all estimates of future demand may inhibit the business from investing capital to meet the most likely level of demand. Contrastingly, this principle can be linked to the concept of economies of scale. For the new technology option, the addition of one unit of capacity will increase unit costs a diseconomy of scale. Not all technologies are equally good. Each one of them has benefits and disadvantages. 2.1 COMPOSTING : Composting is a technology known in India since times immemorial. Composting is the decomposition of organic matter by microorganism in warm, moist, aerobic and anaerobic environment. Farmers have been using compost made out of cow dung and other agro waste.
