DECODING HOUSES FOR ALL IN RAJASTHAN
One of the primary needs of any individual is and has always an owning their home. A house
gives a sense of security and the comfort of coming back to your own place, after a day of work, or a
long vacation, or just when you need some space by yourself.
Today in India; cultural differences, migration to urban cities & nuclear families are the
important aspects due to which approx. 18.78 million people are facing housing related problems. In
India according to experts, "a majority of Indians have per capita space equivalent to or less than a 10
feet x 10 feet room for their living, sleeping, cooking, washing and personal hygiene needs.” The average
is 103 sq ft per person in rural areas and 117 sq ft per person in urban areas.
To overcome this situation The Government of India took a major step towards ensuring that
people can get a house within their financial capacity & launched nationwide scheme known as
“Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana”. In the month of May 2016, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ms. Vasundhara
Raje unveiled policies pertaining to affordable housing in the state. Rajasthan government aims to
construct 1.25 Lakh houses immediately for economically weaker & low income section of the state &
approximate 50000 houses every year. To make this scheme successful Rajasthan government has
reshaped the earlier policy launched in 2009.
As per the experts and the government officials, goal to provide affordable housing to all
economic backward section & low income group has an economic and social significance. In Rajasthan
total housing shortage was estimated to 1.05 million in urban areas and to provide equal opportunity
with affordable house; the department of Urban Development, Housing and Local Self Government
undertook a detailed exercise in understanding various Policy Initiatives of Government of India and
formulated the present policy for building stock of EWS / LIG.
Goals of Affordable Housing Scheme in Rajasthan
 To achieve the objective of Affordable Housing for All creation of EWS / LIG housing stock to
fulfil housing shortage in the State
 To attract private investment for construction of houses for EWS / LIG segment of the society,
by giving incentives to the private developers
 To identify land for affordable housing, through which can be monetized by inviting private
participation on a large scale
 To expedite the process of construction developers shall be facilitated by fast track approvals
