This document provides information about the deciduous forest biome. Deciduous forests have cold winters and warm summers. The dominant trees, such as oak and maple, lose their leaves each fall and have broad leaves to maximize sunlight absorption. Raccoons are nocturnal mammals with thick fur that live in deciduous forests, using their keen senses of hearing and night vision while foraging and excellent climbing abilities to survive the winter.
