1) Tao gets kicked out of his hunting camp and finds an injured wolf dog in the forest. 2) Tao steals an eagle owl's egg with help from the wolf dog, who thinks Tao is its master. 3) Tao gets lost in the Secret Cavern while trying to find and draw in it, as instructed by Graybeard.

2. Chapter 1
Tao got kicked out of the hunting camp because
he lost a rabbit.
In the forest, Tao finds an injured wolf dog.

3. Chapter 3
Tao steals an eagle owl’s egg with a help from a
wolf dog and the wolf dog thinks Tao is its
master and follows him everywhere he goes.
Tao talks to Volt, the leader, and asks why can’t
we have wolf dogs like the mountain people.

4. Chapter 5
People see Ram, and Tao pretends he is chasing
Ram, and rescues Ram.
Tao finds a good cave to live with Ram.

5. Chapter 7
Tao invites Graybeard to his cave, and talks.
They find out they have lots of similarities.
Tao shows Graybeard the drawing of the horse
he drew, and Graybeard got really mad. He calls
Tao a young fool, and he broke 2 taboos.

6. Chapter 9
Tao climbs up the cave and sketches some
animals.
Tao gets attacked by mountains-that-walk but
gets rescued by Ram.

7. Chapter 11
Tao gets hurt and gets treatment by Kala. He
sees a light and follows it, and it was Graybeard.
Tao gives a dead boar to Volt, and Volt gives Tao
a necklace made by boar tusks.

8. Chapter 13
Ram tries to attack a big deer, but they get
caught by the hunters in the other clan.
Tao makes Ram cross over to the mountain
people.

9. Chapter 15
Graybeard tells Tao to find and draw in the
Secret Cavern.
Tao gets lost in the Secret Cavern.

10. Chapter 17
Tao gets caught by Volt and others, and has to
defeat Saxon. He defeats Saxon, but Graybeard
dies from old age.
Tao finds out that Volt is his father!
