1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?

3. This is our first shot you are introduced to in our opening
title sequence.
Our effects were limited in this shot because we didn’t
want to over-expose it. We used the day to night effect to
make the shot look dark which added the effect of cool
colours to create a disorientated feeling for the viewer to
set the outline of the atmosphere for the entirety of the
opening title sequence.
We decided to use this shot as our opening shot because we were trying to represent the main
focus of the sequence based around the band, “Death Entices Us”
We used the day to night effect because the effect didn’t look overly edited and natural, but it
still added a certain dark atmosphere for the viewer. In order to create this, we had to lower the
lighting and exposure to create a more effective look about the shot.
The music we used in the opening title sequence with credits to Break The Boundaries, made
the shot seem more realistic as the beginning of the song we added the sound effect of a crowd
screaming to make it seem like a concert was actually happening.
By using this, it works with the conventions of a thriller by adding a sense of disorientation and
confusion about what is happening or what is to come.

4. This is our second shot. We decided to use this because
we wanted to make the setting of the opening title
sequence more realistic.
In Thrillers, the scene is usually set within the first few frames of the opening title sequence.
Due to the fact the antagonists are members of the band, “Death Entices Us”, we felt that it
would be more professional and more like a real thriller if we set the scene as soon as
possible as a concert.
However, the main action of this opening title sequence remains back stage and out of sight.
We thought it would be best to only focus on the mosh-pits so it sets a more intense
atmosphere for the viewer and makes them wonder what the band are hiding back stage.

5. In the third shot, we are introduced to one of the main antagonists in the opening title
sequence.
Usually in Thrillers or Horrors, we are introduced to the antagonists earlier on in the
sequence so the viewers can get to know them and possibly relate to them in some way.
The effects we used in this shot represents the darkness of the antagonists and the
darkness of their clothes contrasts against the lightness of the buildings.

6. Here, we are introduced further into the opening
sequence. This shot is represents the violence
that is to be expected further on in opening title
sequence.
As the music gets heavier in the opening title sequence, the violence gets worse
and it starts to become clear what is to happen. Here we can see two fans, one
male and one female in a mosh pit fighting together. This represents the anger
and rage inside the antagonists.
In thriller movies, rage and anger isn’t exactly shown straight away through the
antagonists but through their surroundings.

7. In this shot, we are presented with a stereotypical
setting of a band to be in. Things such as bottles
fallen over, half empty shot glasses and makeup.
This shows that the antagonists are heavy drinkers which may explain why they
behave the way they do. This shot was taken backstage of their concert where
most of the action happens.
In most thrillers, the antagonists are in the setting which is stereotypical for them.
The music in this shot is quiet which gives a feeling of angst to the viewer and a
nervous atmosphere.

8. Here, we are introduced to the protagonist,
Courtney. We used the day to night effect in this
shot to make the setting look darker. You can
slightly see Courtney’s face, this represents the
vulnerability that she is feeling.
Because of her dark hair, it symbolizes the fear within her. As shown in the shot, she is
alone in the backstage room of “Death Entices Us’” concert.

9. Here, we are shown a mosh pit at the concert.
This represents the peak of the violence that is to
follow on from this shot. We used the black and
white effect because we didn’t have any lights or
equipment to make the scene look realistic.
We used black and white because the white represents the innocence of the fans
because they are oblivious to what the band are truly like. The band only show their
fans what they want them to see. The black represents the danger and fear from what
happens behind closed doors.

10. Here, we are presented with the protagonist,
Courtney, being tied up to a table leg. We chose
this shot because it shows that she is struggling to
untie herself from the table.
In this shot, the percussion of the song is only playing which adds an eerie and
unnerving atmosphere to the scene. It makes the viewer think about what is going to
happen. The silence of the music represents someone being hunted or danger is
coming. This shot is right before the band come back from their concert to deal with
the antagonist.
In most thrillers, the music is usually louder when the antagonists are about to reveal
themselves, however, when they are near, the music is quieter to add a nervous effect
to the shot.

11. We used this font we downloaded from the internet because we thought it fitted
with the stereotypical band. Cut-edge and bold. We thought we should put the
writing into red because it represents blood and danger quite clearly without any
second guessing. It also represents impurity, which is exactly what the band
is, dangerous and impure.
