PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
2. Page 2 of 7 DAVID FIDDLER
Seventeen years experience as a Principal Consultant/Section Manager in the nuclear power
generation industry, providing a range of operational and technical services on a variety of reactor
types/systems and conventional plant. Primary role is the provision of Safety Cases for EDF Energy’s
Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor fleet and VVER reactor types in Central & Eastern Europe. Registered
as EDF Energy SCM AV1.
Managed a multi-disciplined team of fifteen engineers/scientists primarily providing Reliability-Centred
maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and other technical services to several
Eastern European Nuclear Power Plants via the EuropeAid TACIS/INSC programmes, European
Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD) projects and directly funded projects.
Prior to the above I completed twenty-three years service as an aircraft-engineering technician with the
Royal Air Force becoming skilled in all aspects of aircraft/aircraft systems maintenance and repair. An
experienced Trainer and Training Designer with a background in leadership, management, inter-personal
skills and attitudinal goals setting. More recently in preventive maintenance concepts, and in particular,
Reliability-centred Maintenance.
2010 to present - Principal Consultant, Risktec Solutions Ltd
Support to EDF Energy’s Stations and Central Technical Organisation (CTO), providing technical and
management support to the AGR plant life extension (PLEX) programme. Recent projects include:
• Torness diesel Generators Preventive Maintenance optimisation – replacement of the time-
based invasive PM strategy with a Condition Monitoring and Performance Monitoring strategy.
Resulted in a ~65% reduction in maintenance man hours and a 32.5% increase in diesel
generator availability.
• Hinkley Point B/Hunterston B Power Stations – Installation of new auxiliary boiler systems.
Production of Safety Cases and revisions to existing Safety Cases. Control of modification
proposals. Supervision of Prime Contractor safety documentation production.
• Hartlepool/Heysham 1 Power Stations – PLEX programme upgrades to make up water treatment
and condensate polishing plants. Replacement of bypass gas plant facilities within the reactor
pressure boundary. Modifications to improve the steam and hot gas release safety cases.

The above projects involve referral to EDF Energy Technical Governance and all other EDF Energy
corporate Codes of Practice (COPs), Integrated Company Practices (ICPs), specifications (BEG SPECs),
etc.
1998 – 2010 - Principal Engineer/Team Leader, AMEC Nuclear UK
Main duties include the supervision of a multi-disciplined team of engineers and scientists offering a
range of technical/scientific and Safety Case services primarily to EDF Energy and Central & Eastern
European nuclear utilities. Author and presenter of EDF Energy Safety Case training for reactor
systems and balance of plant engineers. Provision of advice on generic preventive maintenance
issues and, in particular, reliability analysis and operational/availability limits. Production of Safety
Cases for Regulatory approval and maintenance optimisation reviews via the medium of Reliability-
Centred Maintenance and INPO AP913. Design and delivery of RCM training of EDF Energy power
station and CTO engineers.
