About the Fulbright U.S. Student
Program
 For nearly 70 years, the Fulbright U.S. Student
Program has enabled American students to study
at international locations. Funded by the federal
government, it offers grants that allow people to
witness the educational methods of other
nations, meet citizens, and share their own
experiences and methodologies. With connections
to 150 countries, the Fulbright U.S. Student
Program is the country's most expansive
exchange program, and it has benefited more
than 318,000 people since its inception.
Conclusion
 The award was named after United States
Senator J. William Fulbright. Following World War
II, he recommended utilizing excess funds raised
for the war to promote cultural understanding and
good will between America and the rest of the
world. His bill passed, and President Harry S.
Truman signed it into law in 1946. That
year, Congress established the 12-person J.
William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board to set
policies and select winners of the prestigious
honor. The president appoints the board's
members, and this organization continues to
oversee the process to this day.
