11. What is sex selection?
Practice of determining the sex of an unborn foetus
and eliminating it if found to be female. sex selection is
also referred to as pre-natal elimination of girls.
• It is defined as aborting a female foetus after sex determination
test.
• Ultrasonography helps determine abnormalities in the fetus, but it
is misused to find out sex of the foetus and abortion is done if it is a
girl.

13. PCPNDT-
Introduction
Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention
of Misuse) Act enacted in 1994; came into force in 1996
Act amended in 2003:
Renamed as the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic
Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994
Now includes prohibition of sex selection before and after
conception
Also regulates use of pre-conception diagnostic
techniques for sex selection
Central legislation; however, implementation completely
rests with the States through decentralised implementing
mechanisms (Appropriate Authorities) at the state/ district
/ sub-district level

Sex selection before or after conception and misuse of
pre-natal diagnostic techniques for determination of the
sex of the foetus
Advertisements in relation to such techniques for
detection or determination of sex
REGISTRATION:
Facilities providing pre-conception and pre-natal
diagnostics capable of determining the sex of the
foetus
MAINTENANCE & PRESERVATION OF RECORDS:

17. The Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic
Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection)
Act, 1994
Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques includes
Ultra-sonography,
Foetoscopy,
Taking samples of amniotic fluid, embryo, blood or
any tissue or fluid of pregnant women before or after
conception,
Testing samples in Genetic Laboratory to detect
genetic disorders, abnormalities or sex-linked
diseases

29. IMPACT Software
The website was launched on 1st Oct, 2012.
The website address is http://pcpndt.raj.nic.in.
The system is designed and developed by the
National Informatics Centre – Rajasthan.
More than 1554+ sonography centres are registered
online.
More than one crore Form-F have been submitted
online till date (since launch date).
More than 8000 online Form-F are being submitted
by centers on daily basis.- 30 lakh sonography p.a.
More than 2666+ Tracking devices have been
installed.

machine in a tamper-proof
manner.
It has common power supply
with Sonography machine.
It captures the screen of
Sonography machine and
records it in compressed and
encrypted form.
It is able to store data for the
period of 2 years.
It sends the status through

31. Mukhbir Yojna
Under the scheme, State Govt. has declared Award
of Rs. 2,50,000/- to the “Mukhbir” for giving authentic
information of sex selection.
In 2016 25 decoy operations were conducted under
this scheme. (Total 105 Decoy Operations
conducted in the State including 42 Decoy
Operations in 2017 and 9 Decoy Operations in 2018.)
Under this scheme 40% of the award amount is given
to Informant, other 40% of the award amount is
given to Pregnant lady and rest 20% is given to the
attendant of the pregnant lady31

36. Section 315 IPC
Act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or
to cause it to die after birth-Whoever before the birth
of any child does any act with the intention of
thereby preventing that child from being born alive
or causing it to die after its birth, and does by such
act prevent that child from being born alive ,or
cause it to die after its birth ,shall ,if such act be not
caused in good faith for the purpose of saving the
life of the mother, be punished with imprisonment
of either description for a term which may extend to
ten years, or with fine, or with both.
