This document summarizes a project called GametimePLUS that aims to create an ecosystem of easy-to-use, cloud-based tools for real-time mobile statistics collection and visualization for lacrosse. The project seeks to bridge the gap between rapidly expanding data visualization and sports statistics tracking at the non-professional level. It will include an iPad app tailored for lacrosse that facilitates data collection, enables deeper data comprehension through visualization, and tags each piece of data with location and time. The project aims to demonstrate how existing technologies can empower more sports communities to transform data into knowledge.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. WHY:
There is a growing gap between the rapidly expanding
field of data visualization and sports statistics tracking
at the non-professional level.
4. WHAT:
I seek to bridge this gap by creating an ecosystem of
easy to use, cloud-based tools for real-time mobile
statistics collection and visualization.
5. PURPOSE:
1) to facilitate and encourage the collection of data
2) to enable deeper comprehension of the data
through visual exploration
3) to enhance traditional game statistics by tagging
each piece of data with the location and time at which
it was recorded.
6. So WHAT:
This will allow for both immediate data analysis and
the preservation of spatiotemporal relationships
between events—without the steep learning curve or
prohibitive costs of professional-grade tools.
7. WHAT I’m MAkING & TESTING
One possible implementation of this system:
an iPad app tailored to the needs of lacrosse.
8. HOW + WHY:
Through a case study focused on several youth
lacrosse teams in New York and the Bay Area,
my project will demonstrate how the thoughtful
reconfiguration of existing technologies can empower
a wider sports community by helping them transform
data into knowledge.
