3. INTRODUCTION
• Data logging is a process that used computer to collect data through sensors,
analyze and save the data finally output the results of the collection and analysis.
• Data logger is an electronic instrument that records measurement at set intervals
over a period of time.
• Sensors play a vital role in the data logging process. All physical properties can
be measured with sensors.
• By using data logger, the process to collect and analyze information become
more accurate and faster than manual.
4. ENGAGE
What is this?
What process
produces this?
What is
combustion?
How
combustion
occurs?
Where does
combustion
occurs?
What is the
effect of
combustion?
This is fire.
Combustion produces
fire.
5. ENHANCE
PLANNING OF EXPERIMENT
Apparatus & Materials :
Candle, bell jar, matches,
interface, computer, temperature,
oxygen and humidity sensors.
Procedure:
1. The candle and sensors inside the bell jar were set up and arranged as the
diagram above so that the probes will be well away from the candle flame.
2. The sensors was connected to the interface.
3. The result was recorded for 3 minutes.
4. Then, the candle was lighted up and covered with bell jar.
5. When the reading start to level out and the candle has extinguished, air was
readmit into the bell jar.
6. RESULTS & DISCUSSION
1. The oxygen sensor used to monitor the
oxygen level. the line graph shows the candle
extinguished at 1.60 minutes with 16% of
oxygen from outside getting inside the bell
jar. The candle still light up when 20 % of
oxygen is supplied into the bell jar which is
enough for combustion. It shows us that
sufficient amount of oxygen is very important
in combustion reaction.
2. The temperature sensor is used to
measure the temperature inside the bell
jar. During combustion reaction, a lot of
heat produced to the top of the bell jar
and make an increase in temperature.
The line graph shows us, when 7% of
oxygen from outside getting in, the
temperature at the top is higher than the
temperature at the bottom.
3. Humidity sensor will measure the water
vapour produced. With 13% of oxygen
getting in, it shows that the water vapour
increase from 50% to 90% inside the bell jar.
The capacity of a space to hold water vapour
depends on its temperature. The higher the
temperature, the more water vapour it can
contain.
7. EMPOWER
IMPORTANCE OF COMBUSTION
Combustion reactions are an extremely important class of
chemical reactions.
These reactions are vital to our everyday lives.
Do you drive around in a gas-fueled car? Or cook dinner on
a gas stove? How do you keep yourself warm in the winter?
The list of combustion reactions critical to everyday life
goes on.
The combustion of fuels (wood, fossil fuels, peat) have
heated and lit our homes and cooked our food for thousands
of years.
Our lives would be completely different if combustion
reactions didn't exist.
8. APPLICATION OF COMBUSTION
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES
The internal combustion engine is
an engine in which the burning of
a fuel occurs in a confined space
called a combustion chamber. The
defining feature of an internal
combustion engine is that useful
work is performed by the
expanding hot gases acting directly
to cause movement.
EXTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES
External combustion engine uses a
working fluid, either a liquid or a
gas or both, that is heated by a
fuel burned outside the engine.
The fluid expands when heated,
acting on the mechanism of the
engine, thus producing motion
and usable work.
9. CONCLUSION
• In brief, we have conducted an experiment on combustion using data logging
method. Data logging made the experiment to be in a very smooth manner
where we could organize our results well because the usage of ICT helped us a
lot and we support using data logging for any kind of sensor-based experiments
as such of this.
• Moreover, combustion is a reaction. Therefore, it too has its own importance.
So, never just look at the negative side of combustion where it has lots of its
own benefits. Its benefits are listed even from a small simple household to a
big-time operating industry.
