5. Procedure :
1. Park cars side by side, on the grass, fairly spaced apart pointed towards the sun.
2. Measure out the thermocouple cable so that it can reach the back seat as well as the middle of each car.
3. Connect the thermocouple data logger to the laptop computer. Open up Picolog on the
computer and set the computer to take a new reading every one minute and to save regularly.
4. Watch to see if the right temperature goes up. Put the thermocouples in place inside the car and then shut the
doors and don’t disturb.
5. Press “start” on the computer. Watch and wait for about 2.5 hours or until the results are stable
6. Check the calibration by taking all thermocouples out of the respective cars and placing them in same place.
Discussion :
What cause the temperature in the car increase ?
Answer : Because it is being exposed to heat which is sunlight that cause
the car absorb the heat and the heat trapped in the car.
What cause the red car become the coolest compared to two other cars ?
Answer : Although we think of red as a ‘hot’ colour this experiment proved
that red colored cars do not get hotter than either purple or green colored
cars. This is because darker colours absorb more heat.

Why the temperature of a
shirt and a car with the
same color have different
temperature even at the
same place ?
Answer :
Although the car and the shirt are placed in the same
temperature, but the temperature of the car is higher
than the shirt. This is because the shirt will absorb heat
but at the same time the shirt allows the outflow of
heat. As for the car, it will absorb heat but the heat will
be trapped in the car because there is no good air
flow. This makes the shirt temperature lower than the
car temperature.
