Where to define calculations
Define
your calculations in the universe layer, so they are run on the server side
for best performance
Any
calculations defined in the Excel layer run client side in the Flash player and
will cause more performance overhead on load and when the spreadsheet
changes at runtime
o If you have to, use Excel for some simple calculations
o Avoid any functions that refer to multiple cells or a range
– SUM, COUNT, SUMIF, COUNTIF, INDEX, MATCH, HLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, etc..
o Avoid repeating logic in a cell, as it will need to run twice
– =IF(SUM(A2:A100)=1000,1000, SUM(A2:A100))
o Avoid chaining cells together when you don’t need to
