ABSTRACT
 The purpose of this report is to write about my experience during my
Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) at De- Shalom
pharmaceutical laboratory on the production of drugs in many
departments and test carried out on the drug by the Quality Assurance
(Q.A) department. One of the drugs produced at the lab. was
Paracetamol tablet which is produced in the Tableting department
which involved various process such as granulation process (i.e.
mixing, milling and drying), compression, blistering and packaging.
 Many tests are also carried out on it by the Quality Control Analyst.
 They are:
 Moisture content test
 Hardness test
 Friability test
 Disintegration time test
 Assay of paracetamol tablet.
Introduction to SIWES
 The Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a
skill development programme initiated by the Industrial Training
Fund (ITF), in 1973 to bridge the gap between theory and
practical among students of engineering and technology in
institution of higher learning in Nigeria.
 It was also established by the government of deliver into the
hands of each students the practical experience of the various
discipline being taught in school to achieve the much required
technological advancement of the nation
OBJECTIVES OF
SIWES
 The objectives of the Student Industrial
Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)
are to
 Expose students to work method and
techniques in handling equipment and
machinery that may not be available in
their institution.
 Prepare students for the industrial
work situation they are to meet after
graduation.
 Make the transition from school to the
world of work easier and enhance
student contract for later job
placement.
 Provide student with an opportunity to
apply their knowledge in real work
situation thereby bridging the gap
between theory and practice.
ROLE OF STUDENT
DURING SIWES
 Student must take the SIWES
programme very serious.
 Student is to report for duty daily and
punctually and to continue working
until closing time excluding public
holiday.
 Student must be obedient i.e. obey the
rules and regulation laid down by the
company’s authority.
 Student must be polite and respectful
when talking to the industrial based
supervisor and other workers in the
industry.
 Student must be responsible to the
supervisor in-charge of the company.
 Student must protect and safeguard
employer’s property throughout the
period of training.

Introduction to Paracetamol
 Paracetamol is a painkiller (analgesic) medicine available over-
the-counter without a prescription.
 Paracetamol works as a painkiller by affecting chemicals in the
body called prostaglandins, prostaglandins are substances
released in response to illness or injury, paracetamol blocks the
production of prostaglandins, making the body less aware of the
pain or injury.
 Paracetamol reduces temperature by acting on the area of the
brain that is responsible, for controlling temperature.

CONCLUSION
 The advantage of SIWES to any technology and engineering
student cannot be over emphasized. It was through the Student
Industrial Training Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) that
student is enabling to gain technology experience like
production of different drugs, treatment of water, preparation of
solution etc.
 Finally, I can now understand the importance of SIWES not only
to gain technologically experience but also to be exposed to the
world.
