ONE + ONE
MOVEMENT
It is my desire that District 44 culminates the year as President
Distinguished.
To do that, I’m reaching out to each of you to help us by
participating in the One + One Movement. We all need to
focus on new members by sharing the values and benefits the
Toastmaster program has to offer. Therefore, I ‘m asking each of
you to be engaged and bring a guest to each of your meetings.
Feel free to reach out to your family, friends and co-workers.
Inviting your BOSS is a phenomenal opportunity to let them
see first-hand how you’ve developed and grown in your
communication and leadership skills. One should also take
advantage of the opportunity to invite new members to speech
contests, including the area, division and district levels.
Byaddingnewmembersyourclubwillalsohavetheopportunity
to add the following attributes:
• New Vitality
• Unbiased Listening Skills
• New Stories to Share
• Enthusiasm
• New Skills
The existing members will reap the
benefits these attributes bring and
will have an opportunity to mentor
and share their knowledge. It’s such a
reward individually when a member
teams up with a new member to
motivate and share their excitement
as they see them grow personally,
professionally and socially.

Talk Up Toastmasters!
Can you think of any other organization that welcomes you with open arms,
listens attentively to your stories, applauds whatever you do, and includes
you as part of the team? How about an organization that provides you
with a network of friends, allows you to become a group leader, provides
a place to visit almost anywhere in the world, and offers an opportunity to
become the World Champion of Public Speaking. Oh, did I mention guidance
from mentors, feedback from coaches and evaluators, or the countless
learning manuals and other resources at your disposal? Would you believe
an organization like such even exists? Put all of this together and you have
Toastmasters!
With over 1400 new members added to our District this year, it is evident
that the word is out about Toastmasters and that people are jumping on
board to take part in what has proven to be a successful communication and
leadership skill building organization. My goal is to see our District grow by
another 1200 members by June 30.
Friends, I encourage you to take full advantage of your Toastmasters
membership. I also encourage you to bring a few of your friends and
acquaintances along with you to help us reach this goal and to have strong
diverse clubs.
During our Talk up Toastmasters campaign the challenge for your club is to
add at least four new members between February 1 and March 31. While this
may sound like a daunting task, it’s not! Several clubs have been successful
at adding new members by conducing an open house or featuring a special
guest. Others have been successful at hosting workshops on communication
or leadership. And others have relied on their website combined with flyers,
press releases, MeetUp, Facebook, Twitter, and other forms of social media.
Let’s continue to learn and grow and invite others to team with us on our
journey. Together, we can reach our goal. Working together to make things
happen! Talk up Toastmasters!

EVALUATION
CONTEST
Toastmaster contests are a big part of what
happens on a yearly basis. The evaluation
contest is when a target speech is selected and
the contestants each evaluate that speech.
No one gets into Toastmasters to“help others
become better speakers”yet that is the chief
aim when speech evaluations are performed.
Evaluations are the heart of the Toastmasters
educational program. These competitors
did not disappoint as they focused on their
listening, critical thinking, and positive
feedback sills in evaluating the speech titled
“Lessons Learned From Nursery Rhymes”by
Murray Williams of Henry County Toastmasters
Club.
HUMOROUS
SPEECH
CONTEST
It’s not everyday you get to see people at their
best, but on the 15th of November we sure
did. Speaking with humor is a great skill. Every
year clubs across the globe hold humorous
speech contests. The criteria are those for
any good speech. The additional task for the
speakers is to give a speech with a message
that is presented with humor. These members
outshined all others and immediately got
the audience on their side with their funny
anecdotes of past life experiences.

FALL CONFERENCE FIRST TIMER’S EXPERIENCE
I attended this conference out of curiosity – I
was one of those 1st timers. It started like most
conferences, with breakout sessions and topics
that were reasonably interesting/encouraging
but then came the Youth Contest and I WAS
BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!
There were 11 youth speakers and all of them
did a fantastic job. They ranged in age from 11-
17 and talked about a variety of topics covering
personal losses, stereotypes, pain, golden rule,
challenges in our society, and aspiring to be a
difference.
They spoke: authentically, confidently - without
notes, with great articulation and inspiring
content.
They had props, statistics (e.g. there is a death
by suicide every 13minutes in the US), were
interactive, but most importantly they had
passion about the topic they spoke about.
One of my favorite quotes from one of these
amazing youth was“when your alarm bell goes
off in the morning, you can choose to continue
sleeping and dreaming OR you can wake up
and pursue your dreams”........this from a 12year
old!!!
Needless to say, these young people both
challenged and inspired me. They made me
realize I have to step up my game. So here’s
a toast to all of us stepping up our game as
we continue in our Toastmaster’s adventure/
journey. Cheers!!!!
Did you know that several District 44 Toastmasters

When I first
met with Blake
Asbury the
President of
the club back
in Summer
of 2015 he
told me his
goal was to
bring their
struggling
club from 9 to
25 members
by the end of
the year. They
are working
hard and it
shows.
This has been shouted from the Rooftops for all in District 44 to hear. As an
Area Director of Division F, Area 65 I’m charged with spreading the word. I’ve
had an easy job due to the efforts being made by NorthPark Toastmasters.
When I first met with Blake Asbury the President of the club back in Summer
of 2015 he told me his goal was to bring their struggling club from 9 to 25
members by the end of the year. They are working hard and it shows. They
have had 9 new members join the club, and continue to spread the word to
all the companies in the Building where they meet. They just had an Open
House Lunch and Learn and had 20 guests attend. Their Treasurer was armed
with his applications and CC machine to capture any new members as they
left the room.
I asked Blake to explain what his plan has been he
replied:
“I always find out where our current members work and
how many employees there are in their company. If they
work close by, I encourage them to invite their fellow
coworkers and put up a brochure in their breakroom if
they have one.
If their company is large enough, I ask them to introduce me to their senior
management so I can talk to them about Toastmasters. I try to make it easy for
management to introduce Toastmasters to their employees by offering to hold
a lunch meeting on site and provide food. I then work with a manager and our
current member at that location to draft an invite and collect the number of
RSVPs. I try to make them an offer they can’t refuse and get them to see the value
to their company if their employees are better communicators. Who doesn’t
want their employees to be great communicators not only internally but also
with clients and their home life which leads to happier employees? It takes time,
persistence, and member-help to get to the right people and make this happen.
An event like this doesn’t just fall in your lap.
After the event, we send a follow up email and put those that didn’t sign up on
a tickler list. We are planning to send them a quarterly email re-inviting each
quarter. Then for those that did join, I will encourage them at the end of each
meeting to try and get the others to come back.”
I think Blake and his team should be proud of what they have accomplished
this year and, are an inspiration to other struggling clubs.

Talk Up Toastmasters!  Canyou think of any other organization that welcomes you with open arms, listens attentively to your stories, applauds whatever you do, and includes you as part of the team? How about an organization that provides you with a network of friends, allows you to become a group leader, provides a place to visit almost anywhere in the world, and offers an opportunity to become the World Champion of Public Speaking. Oh, did I mention guidance from mentors, feedback from coaches and evaluators, or the countless learning manuals and other resources at your disposal? Would you believe an organization like such even exists? Put all of this together and you have Toastmasters! With over 1400 new members added to our District this year, it is evident that the word is out about Toastmasters and that people are jumping on board to take part in what has proven to be a successful communication and leadership skill building organization. My goal is to see our District grow by another 1200 members by June 30. Friends, I encourage you to take full advantage of your Toastmasters membership. I also encourage you to bring a few of your friends and acquaintances along with you to help us reach this goal and to have strong diverse clubs. During our Talk up Toastmasters campaign the challenge for your club is to add at least four new members between February 1 and March 31. While this may sound like a daunting task, it’s not! Several clubs have been successful at adding new members by conducing an open house or featuring a special guest. Others have been successful at hosting workshops on communication or leadership. And others have relied on their website combined with flyers, press releases, MeetUp, Facebook, Twitter, and other forms of social media. Let’s continue to learn and grow and invite others to team with us on our journey. Together, we can reach our goal. Working together to make things happen! Talk up Toastmasters! CREATE the life you desire... every day in every way! EVALUATION CONTEST Toastmaster contests area big part of what happens on a yearly basis. The evaluation contest is when a target speech is selected and the contestants each evaluate that speech. No one gets into Toastmasters to“help others become better speakers”yet that is the chief aim when speech evaluations are performed. Evaluations are the heart of the Toastmasters educational program. These competitors did not disappoint as they focused on their listening, critical thinking, and positive feedback sills in evaluating the speech titled “Lessons Learned From Nursery Rhymes”by Murray Williams of Henry County Toastmasters Club. HUMOROUS SPEECH CONTEST It’s not everyday you get to see people at their best, but on the 15th of November we sure did. Speaking with humor is a great skill. Every year clubs across the globe hold humorous speech contests. The criteria are those for any good speech. The additional task for the speakers is to give a speech with a message that is presented with humor. These members outshined all others and immediately got the audience on their side with their funny anecdotes of past life experiences. 1st Place: AC Chan, North Gwinnett Advanced Toastmasters Club 2nd Place: Roslyn Thomas, Peachtree Toastmasters 3rd Place: John Hartwell, St. Leo The Great Toastmasters 1st Place: Herschel E. DISTRICT 44 TOASTMASTERS FALLCONFERENCE FIRST TIMER’S EXPERIENCE I attended this conference out of curiosity – I was one of those 1st timers. It started like most conferences, with breakout sessions and topics that were reasonably interesting/encouraging but then came the Youth Contest and I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!!!! There were 11 youth speakers and all of them did a fantastic job. They ranged in age from 11- 17 and talked about a variety of topics covering personal losses, stereotypes, pain, golden rule, challenges in our society, and aspiring to be a difference. They spoke: authentically, confidently - without notes, with great articulation and inspiring content. They had props, statistics (e.g. there is a death by suicide every 13minutes in the US), were interactive, but most importantly they had passion about the topic they spoke about. One of my favorite quotes from one of these amazing youth was“when your alarm bell goes off in the morning, you can choose to continue sleeping and dreaming OR you can wake up and pursue your dreams”........this from a 12year old!!! Needless to say, these young people both challenged and inspired me. They made me realize I have to step up my game. So here’s a toast to all of us stepping up our game as we continue in our Toastmaster’s adventure/ journey. Cheers!!!! Did you know that several District 44 Toastmasters were featured on the reality TV series Chrisley Knows Best? A half hour docu-comedy following the entertaining lives of Atlanta-based outspoken and overprotective, but very loving father, Todd Chrisley and his colorful clan. Producers reached out to Toastmasters International in need of a club for their season finale and District 44 met that call to action with a taping of a club meeting. 9 DISTRICT 44 MESSENGER NEWSLETTER www.d44toastmasters.org Modupe Olatunji VP Membership PMI Atlanta Toastmasters DISTRICT 44 TOASTMASTERS FEATURED ON CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST

When I first metwith Blake Asbury the President of the club back in Summer of 2015 he told me his goal was to bring their struggling club from 9 to 25 members by the end of the year. They are working hard and it shows. This has been shouted from the Rooftops for all in District 44 to hear. As an Area Director of Division F, Area 65 I’m charged with spreading the word. I’ve had an easy job due to the efforts being made by NorthPark Toastmasters. When I first met with Blake Asbury the President of the club back in Summer of 2015 he told me his goal was to bring their struggling club from 9 to 25 members by the end of the year. They are working hard and it shows. They have had 9 new members join the club, and continue to spread the word to all the companies in the Building where they meet. They just had an Open House Lunch and Learn and had 20 guests attend. Their Treasurer was armed with his applications and CC machine to capture any new members as they left the room. I asked Blake to explain what his plan has been he replied: “I always find out where our current members work and how many employees there are in their company. If they work close by, I encourage them to invite their fellow coworkers and put up a brochure in their breakroom if they have one. If their company is large enough, I ask them to introduce me to their senior management so I can talk to them about Toastmasters. I try to make it easy for management to introduce Toastmasters to their employees by offering to hold a lunch meeting on site and provide food. I then work with a manager and our current member at that location to draft an invite and collect the number of RSVPs. I try to make them an offer they can’t refuse and get them to see the value to their company if their employees are better communicators. Who doesn’t want their employees to be great communicators not only internally but also with clients and their home life which leads to happier employees? It takes time, persistence, and member-help to get to the right people and make this happen. An event like this doesn’t just fall in your lap. After the event, we send a follow up email and put those that didn’t sign up on a tickler list. We are planning to send them a quarterly email re-inviting each quarter. Then for those that did join, I will encourage them at the end of each meeting to try and get the others to come back.” I think Blake and his team should be proud of what they have accomplished this year and, are an inspiration to other struggling clubs.
