The Supremes_ Timeless Classics That Defined an Era.pdfCIOWomenMagazine
In 1959, the Supremes were founded as the Primettes in Detroit, Michigan. It was Motown’s most commercially successful act and the most successful American vocal band consisting of 12 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. The original members Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, and Betty McGlown were all from the Brewster-Douglass public housing project in Detroit.
Popular music is literally means " music of the populace," similar to traditional folk music of the past. As it developed in the 20th century, pop music (as it has come to be called) generally consisted of the music for entertainment of large numbers of people, whether on radio or live performances.
1. Dear Americana Music Association,
Here at Cyber PR, we recognize your enthusiasm for Americana music and we
understand the goal of the website Americanamusic.org is to spread American Roots music
around the world. That is why we believe Chris Daniels and the Kings would fit into your
collection of talented and authentic Americana musicians as perfectly as the last piece to a
puzzle.
Chris Daniels and the Kings can be described as the sound of Colorado. Chris Daniels,
the band leader, is a successful songwriter, a talented guitarist, and a singer with a smooth, but
edgy, voice. His catchy songs have been heard around the world. His voice has drifted out of our
television speakers when some of his songs appeared in American commercials for companies
such as McDonalds and Ford. Those same songs have been heard in other countries, such as
Holland where he performed for the Queen. Since 1991, Chris Daniels and the Kings have
spread the sound of Colorado around two continents.
Daniels has been compared to artists such as Richard Thompson and Sam Bush, as well
as the great James Taylor. He is responsible for writing well recognized regional songs such as
“South Carolina”, “Better Days”, and “Wildcat”. Daniels is known for his sense of humor and
diversity in songwriting and that can be seen in his song titled “Medical Marijuana”; a song
about Colorado’s most recent legalized herb.
But Daniels doesn’t simply write a song about marijuana because it has become a large
part of Colorado’s culture. He wrote the song because, to him, marijuana served as a medicine.
In 2010, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Fortunately for Daniels, he was able
to get a bone marrow transplant via stem cells from his sister, dubbing him a new breed of family
man.
Daniels has not let cancer stop him from his music and still leads Chris Daniels and the
Kings. In 2012, the band was nominated to be inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame.
They have earned the opportunity to appear alongside outstanding musicians such as B.B. King,
Sheryl Crow, Uncle Cracker, and Ziggy Marley.
Chris Daniels and the Kings are the sound of Colorado and a perfect fit for the Americana
Music Association.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
