Personal Statement.
I am a committed, hard working professional teacher who has demonstrated a
willingness to take on and excel in many of the various aspects of a Science
Department and in a school in general. I enjoy the many faceted challenges of
contact and teaching young people, in fact the more challenging the more rewarding
the job satisfaction from the students success.
I am a strong believer in having a safe, disciplined, serene and respectful learning
environment that promotes an understanding of the subject matter and one another
as students, teacher and human beings.
In addition to curriculum based teaching I also thoroughly enjoy the student to
teacher interactions of the pastoral roles, I was a form tutor from Year 7 all of the
way through to Year 11 and not being a one to just rest at break times I was a
Lunchtime Duty Supervisor for several years in addition to my normal staff duties.
Employment.
2010 - to date.
Academics Ltd – Ground Floor, Ouseburn Gateway,
163 City Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 2BE.
I have worked in a number of schools throughout the North East of England on a
supply basis since October of 2015 as a Science teacher. I teach Science to Key
Stages 2, 3 & 4, with my area of specialism being Biological Sciences to Key Stage
5 and Adult Education.
The ABF - The Soldier’s Charity.
My eldest son was killed in Afghanistan by an IED, in his personal belongings was a
wristband for The ABF the soldiers Charity.
I was very upset by this loss to the point whereby I stopped teaching and began to
raise money for this Charity with my wife in our sons name. We planned, organised
and took part in numerous events which has resulted in about £50,000 and
counting, having been raised in his name and looks certain to continue. I now find
myself ready to return to the job I was meant for and able to continue my charity
work too.
September 2002 - to - 2010.
St Mary’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive School,
Benton Park Road,
Newcastle Upon Tyne,
NE1 1PE.
I was a Key Stage 3, 4 & 5 Science teacher and also had other roles inside the
Department, these roles included :-
 Science Primary School Link Tutor.
 Special Educational Needs Link Tutor.
 English as an Additional Language Link Tutor.
I also took part in many other functioning groups within the Department from
curriculum development, Numeracy and Literacy in Science, the role of Science in
society and religious development and the introduction of Information Technology
into Science and The Science Department. This one in particular drove the
Department into a virtual paperless record keeping status and the introduction of
shared practice and development of interactive whiteboards and its software. As a
Department we built a bank of lesson plans and associated resources for all years
and various ability ranges.
I also taught City & Guilds ICT for a couple of years from which I was able to bring
back the skill set and build a greater interaction and common practice arrangement
with the ICT Department.
Pastorally I was a Form Tutor for Years 7 to 11, I was an active member of the Tutor
team and spent considerable time and effort in the day to day monitoring and
evaluating of not only my Form Tutor Year group but the student body as a whole.
In addition to my role in Staff Duties I was a Lunchtime Supervisor for 3 years which
I was able to monitor and interact with the student body as a virtual whole. Which
also allowed me to influence not only the behaviour and attitude during lunchtime
but how they were acting at the end of their break and how they went to their next
lesson.
