Nick Turner IEng, MICE,MBA
An incorporated engineer and member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, who is a highly regarded MBA
and ILM-qualified senior manager with over 35 years of experience in civil engineering, local government
contracting and consultancy. Previous positions have provided the opportunity to build transferable skills
in: process improvement; project management; tendering and procurement; estimating and buying;
events management; budgeting; coaching and mentoring.
A subject matter expert in the following: highway design and maintenance; drainage and sewerage;
contract documents; town centre development; construction; environmental projects; public
consultations; health & safety. Currently seeking new leadership challenges to help improve services
within the Nottinghamshire area and across the East Midlands.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
 Transformed many services that had been receiving very poor audit reports, including car park
ticketing. Implemented new procedures; trained staff to be better equipped to tackle servicing
problems; changed breakdown and cash handling processes. Good attention to detail and strong
planning and operational management ensured that audit results moved from ‘unsatisfactory’ to
‘good’ within a matter of months.
 Tasked with improving attendance. Invoked attendance management guidelines; observed return
to work interviews and provided feedback and coaching; analysed trends; supported team
members on long term sickness through occupational health; improved manual handling training;
offered phased return to work programmes. This resulted in the average absence being reduced
from 10 days to 3 days per head per annum. The organisational unit attendance records became
the ‘best in the district’.
 Led on a number of award winning initiatives, including:
o Highway design and quality assurance, capital schemes using government grants and
regeneration of derelict properties (awarded by ABSE for delivering excellent service).
o Improved training and mitigated risk regarding street works, health & safety, manual handling
