Education & Training
Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering - DIT Bolton
Street, Dublin
2012 - May 2015.
 Control Systems and Instrumentation
 Solid Works and CAD
 Mechanics and Materials
 Unit Operations and Process Systems
 Energy System Design and Mathematics
 Engineering Management
 Electronics and Electrotechnoglogy
The idea for my final year project (Control for a Cutting Device), was to design and fit a control system to
a pipe cutting device. This involved the timing of the motor for turning and the opening and closing of a
solenoid valve on the oxyacetylene cutting unit.
The principle idea is to turn a manually operated pipe cutting machine into a machine that has a control
system that is fully automated. This will enable the engineer/operator to carry out other tasks related to
the job in hand, while the cutting device is operating under the control system.
The aims and objectives of the project were to;
 Research: The equipment being modified and investigate current devices on the market
 Design: Select the feasible design to meet the requirements of the project
 Source: Source and cost the most suitable components for the control system
 Assembly ; Build, test control system and evaluate results
The ‘Control System for a Cutting Device’ project has been determined to be a success from the outset.
All aims and objectives have been achieved and working and functional control system is in place.
