I was employed as an “Operator/Maintainer” with Trustpower Ltd, one of the largest companies
listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange that has a strong reputation for innovation producing
power from renewable resources using Wind & Hydro Electric Generation.
Main responsibilities:
To maintain hydro-electric generators and associated equipment/plant at Cobb Hydro-Power
Station, all controlled via “SCADA” control systems.
Gathering readings in the field to produce a monthly report on Dam/Penstock condition,
collating my observations in a monthly report to be sent to stakeholders, using Microsoft Office.
Maintaining scheme buildings and infrastructure. Upgrading Station water supply and plumbing,
segregating from coolant water system to the generators, managing and directing contractors
on site.
Maintaining Penstocks (1.5mtr diameter supply pipework to station) and associated expansion
joints, air relief and Johnston couplings, working in a challenging remote alpine environment.
Working from drawings and utilising drawing programmes to access this information.
Corrosion monitoring of Penstocks, collation of data and sending monthly reports to
stakeholders.
2. Utilising “Maximo” Maintenance Program to record, plan and schedule work and account for
Purchase Orders against Invoices.
Inducting contractors to site, ensuring all Company Health &Safety (H&S) procedures were
understood and adhered to.
Issuing and working under Access /Test Permits, Work Authorities and Hazard ID to promote
work safety within a strong H&S culture.
Carrying out heavy lifts with extensive use of Station remote control overhead cranes with 15
and 25 ton lifting capacity and use of truck Hi-Ab. All rigging under taken.
Use of chainsaws and lifting equipment to clear fallen trees on Station access roads and
penstocks.
